Meijer is having a sale on video games this weekend. Their entire selection of video games is buy one get one 50% off on Saturday from 6 AM to Midnight. Meijer is located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky (store locator). They have a good selection of video games for Xbox, Xbox 360, PSP, PS2, Gamecube, GBA, and DS. In the past I have had luck getting Best Buy to price match Meijer, in case you do not have a Meijer nearby. This would be an excellent sale to stop by for anyone picking up a Nintendo DS on Sunday.

Man Steals 60 PSP Games From Blockbuster
Posted by Josh Smith Categories: Culture, Hardware, Portable/Mobile, PSP,
Last night a Myrtle Beach man stole 60 games from a local Blockbuster in one trip. Store employees spotted the individual stuffing PSP games into his pants around 8:30 PM. The games are valued at $1,800 or roughly $30 bucks each. The theft came as a shock to members of the gaming community, many of whom currently believe the PSP has very few titles worth stealing. Blockbuster has also issued a warning to stores in the area to be on the lookout for any customer who wears baggy pants and waddles as they exit the store. Someone please send us the security cam footage of this one!

Max Media Dock for Nintendo DS Available This Week
Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Accessories, Nintendo DS, Portable/Mobile,
It may not be as sleek and sexy as playing UMD movies on your oh-so-gorgeous PSP screen, but at least the Nintendo DS now has a way to play many common media types. The Max Media Dock will be available this week - the dock works as follows: First, you plug a media reader into your DS game slot, and then an adapter in the GBA slot allows you to plug in Compact Flash cards and load music, movies, or even homebrew executables. The dock will ship in 3 versions - a $30 version that just contains the media dock, and a $55 and $85 versions that ship with 1 and 2 GB Compact Flash cards, respectively.
This probably won’t sell a lot more DS units - after all, most folks who wanted a portable game machine that also does movies and music probably already own a PSP. Still, the Dock might be worth it just for the homebrew DS game possibilities it opens up.

Gabe over at Penny Arcade received a DS Lite from Nintendo today and posted the unpacking video for all to see. This is by far the best unpacking video I have seen. I can only hope my DS Lite packaging does this on Sunday.

Microsoft’s Live Anywhere Gains Support
Posted by Josh Smith Categories: Corporate News, Portable/Mobile, Wireless, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Xbox Live Arcade, Xbox Live Marketplace,
QUALCOMM announced June 1st that it will be supporting the Live Anywhere movement through use of it’s BREW software. If you are using a Verizon Wireless cell phone and playing games, you are using BREW. The announcement was made at the annual BREW developer’s conference in San Diego, and is good news for Microsoft. Previous to this announcement Live Anywhere was a great theory but lacked visible backers in the wireless industry. These showings of support by QUALCOMM and by proxy Verizon Wireless has lent credibility to the idea that I can purchase a game on the Xbox Live Arcade and gain the ability to play the game on your phone or interact on the go with your friends on Live. Yet to be laid out is what consumers will have to pay Verizon for this access since Verizon is unlikely to just hand out access to their distribution service and lose revenue from games purchased on Live. On the upside, combined with the free XBL gold weekends that Verizon has given out, the company may be showing a commitment to the gaming community and thus attracting more gamers to it’s multitude of services.

Ms. Pac-Man On The iPod nano
Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Culture, Mods/Hacks, Portable/Mobile, Retro,
Remember all the rumors from a few days back about how Apple is possibly hiring game designers to work on iGames for the iPod? Well, they’re definitely going to want to send this guy a job offer. Some guy known only as “Scott” used his iPod nano, some enginuity, foamboard, and really tiny print-outs for a MAME cabinet to make the world’s smallest Ms. Pac Man machine. This thing has to be seen to be believed. It stands just over 5 inches tall, and “it works”.
The idea of one day carrying around an arcade in my pocket makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Mr. Smallest MAME cabinet in the world inventor, we salute you.

Searching for the DS Lite
Posted by Josh Smith Categories: Editorial, Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Portable/Mobile,
As Playfeed previously reported, Target and other retailers have broken the street date for the new slimfast loving Nintendo DS Lite. Today I spent roughly 2 hours in search of this elusive mobile gaming platform. The new DS lite is set to be released on Sunday June 11th here in the US, but on May 30th DS Lites started appearing on shelves across the country.
Today I traveled to Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Gamestop, EB Games, Meijer and Sears searching for some mobile enjoyment. I wound up empty handed but still hopeful that I can find a DS Lite before the street date. The stores that I searched today are located in Findlay, OH and Toledo, OH and I can officially say that there are no DS Lites for sale in Findlay, OH. The closest I got to a DS lite was an open spot in the Meijer game cabinet which had a UPC that said DS Lite. If you want to check for locations near you that are breaking the street date follow the Read More link for the DS Lite availability Frappr map. Good Luck!
