One thing your visitors will not appreciate is your site taking more of their time than it needs to. One thing which you may think is a cool addition is the splash page. Hey - it delivers your logo straight to your captive audience, and you can even play a cute flash video with matching audio! Bad move. When someone types in YourSite.com, they want to see the information that they are looking to find in the smallest amount of time possible. Any type of introductory page will take time to load, and usually requires a click for the reader to move on and get to the content navigation tools. My advice is to simply leave it out - it is useless and really is more of a turn off if anything.

Earlier today we got a look at Saitek’s new PC game controllers, and figured we would bring you the goods. First up is the P990 Dual Analog. Let me preface this by letting you know that Saitek has decided to switch their hardware focus to cater to the first person shooter category. That being said, all of their new controllers reflect that mentality. We weren’t able to get our hands on any of them, so our impressions are purely visual.
So, here we have the P990 Dual Analog which features backlit buttons and increased grip. I must say, the backlit button do look smooth - but control is more than just looks. There is an FPS button which automatically configures the controller for FPS games so that you no longer need to rely on the mouse, which the right analog stick taking its place. Saitek’s Smart Technology software allows for advanced controller programming by identifying your specific control setup for each game you own. One thing I don’t know about is the D-Pad. It’s a personal thing, but I just don’t like when they are shaped like that. Oh, you can’t see them in the image, but there are 4 shoulder trigger on this one as well. It will be available in July for a price of $20 USD.
An impressive piece of work, the Motorola Razr V3 is finally being challenged after being on the market for more than 8 months. While lacking more advanced features like a 1+ megapixel camera, which Samsung’s phone will feature, the Razr’s slim design has attracted much attention. Keeping the same thickness of the Razr when closed (14.5mm) and only weighing 3 grams more, the Samsung SCH-V740 is set to have Bluetooth, MP3 playback capabilities, and a file viewer - features not available on the current Razr.

Killzone, while looking incredible, has gotten a lot of reactions from gamers and the media. Of course the media jumped on the PS3 like the second coming of Christ, but some gamers are rightfully curious about the nature of the video. Is it CGI, or is it done in real-time on the PS3 hardware? At this point it’s unclear. I just hope Sony clarifies this—if indeed real-time it will have convinced many naysayers. If not, Sony is up to the same old tricks they did with the PS2.

PalmOne has finally made the official announcement of their LifeDrive multimedia PDA. If you are a Palm user, this is the one to look for in the next week or two, which is when they are expected to hit retail. This thing has a 4GB mini hard drive with 16 MB of built-in ROM and a 416MHz XScale processor. Keeping with the times, the LifeDrive also supports 802.11b WiFi and BlueTooth on the Palm OS 5.4 (Garnet) software. A 320 x 480 pixel 65,000 color touch screen round thing thing out. You can expect to drop $500 on this bad boy, but from what reviewers are saying, it may be well worth the price of admission.
Just because you couldn’t attend the all exclusive press events from the top three names in the industry doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them from the comfort of your own home. Big thanks go to E3Insider and Spike TV for providing the unfortunate public a look at the events. The videos are of the highlights instead of boring you with every single second of the event. These videos are great, because they focus on the most interesting parts of the events and provide a nice look on the inside to the general public. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could provide some goodies to really show the E3 experience? Check out the videos and tell us what you think. We will have our initial impressions of the big three soon.

We spoke with Kingston Technology earlier this evening at eFocus, where they were giving the details on their Secure Digital Card product line addition. The new Ultimate SD cards will ship at 512 MB and 1 GB capacities to start, but I am sure a 2 GB version isn’t too far away. The new SD Ultimate cards offer significant performance benefits over the current Standard and Elite Pro lines of SD cards, including 133X transfer rates of larger size files. This is great for the rapid shooting demands of professional digital photography.
“Kingston developed the SD Ultimate line to give pro users and serious digital enthusiasts a greater array of choices for their digital media,” said Mike Kuppinger, senior product manager, Kingston. “Our SD Ultimate cards provide superb performance to help users optimize their high-end digital equipment—whether it’s a digital camera, MP3 player or PDA,” continued Kuppinger.
The 512 MB cards will retail for $72 USD, whereas the 1 GB flavor will go for $164 USD. Kingston confirmed that the Ultimate SD Card line will soon be followed by an Ultimate Compact Flash card line with similar speed increases.
Today you now have the ability to receive AMBER Alert messages via SMS on your mobile device. In fact, in a chat with Sprint earlier it seems that soon you will even be able to be sent an image of the missing child. Almost the whole country is covered by the service, and thusly can subscribe at no cost. Of course, the standard text messaging fees of your mobile carrier still apply - but aren’t those virtually non-existant nowadays?
