Tweetbot for Mac review

Tweetbot is arguably the best Twitter experience you can get on an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, and now the folks at Tapbots have released Tweetbot for Mac. It's a clean, polished Twitter experience that outshines both official offerings from Twitter itself--Twitter for Mac and Tweetbot. iCloud and Notification Center support are on board, allowing you to sync preferences and read items across devices. You can pick up Tweetbot for Mac now for $19.99 in the Mac App Store. Why so much? Well, due to Twitter's new, strict API rules, developers like Tapbots only have a limited number of user tokens that its apps can use. So if you wanna use Tweetbot, you're gonna have to grab it soon, because once the API tokens are gone, they're gone.

Google Event Oct 29

The rumor of the Google Nexus event on October 29th is all but confirmed. The search giant has sent out invitations to the press for the event being held in New York City. The invite details are limited to time, date, and place but there's some additional written text in the search field. Could it mean an open API for Google Now?

With a high degree of certainty, the event will centered around the LG Nexus 4. However, there might be additional hardware announcements, like the one that appeared on the photo sharing site, Picasa, of the Sony Nexus X smartphone, and possibly a revamped Nexus Q. Perhaps some chatter of Google TV; we doubt it though. Could Google be planning to release yet another version of Android? Key Lime Pie anyone? The event will be live streamed on Youtube.

Memoirs Of A Time TravelerWhen Larry Gelbart likes someone’s writing, I pay attention, especially when that writer is a friend of mine.

Television writer Doug Molitor has just released his first novel, Memoirs of a Time Traveler, in paperback through Amazon’s createspace.

Here’s the story: “A wild, Amazonian tourist from the future drags a young archaeologist of today on a chase through time, from ancient Atlantis to a hellhole future, from 1776 to Golden Age Hollywood, trying to stop her psycho ex, whose thefts of legendary objects are rewriting history. Sci-fi meets romantic comedy with sword-swinging adventure.”

Action Comics #1“Fighting for what’s right has not been easy. No one would want to endure what Warner Bros. and DC Comics has put my family, the Shusters and my attorney through. And that’s exactly what their executives and lawyers want. By filing frivolous lawsuits against my family, the Shuster family and our lawyer, by publicly revealing my private communications, by driving up litigation costs and refusing to negotiate fairly, these companies think that other creators will be afraid to stand up to them, and that lawyers will think twice before taking on their cases.”

iPad mini November 2

Geeky Gadgets is reporting that it's received a report from a UK-based retailer that the iPad mini is set to launch on November 2 in North America and the UK. Further, pre-orders for the smaller iPad tablet should begin on October 26th, three days after Apple's iPad mini event is held in San Jose, California. The November 2 date just makes sense--it's 10 days after the Apple event, and it's a Friday, which is typically how Apple rolls with these kinds of hardware releases. So, if you're interested in picking up one of the new iPad mini units, it looks like November 2 is your day.

Beats Pill review

It's not just the Beats Executive on-ear headphones that are new from Beats Audio, as the company has also released it's own portable Bluetooth speaker: the Beats Pill. Yes, it's a pill-shaped speaker, likely a play on the fact that it's part of the Beats by Dr. Dre line, and doctors prescribe pills. Anyhow, cheesy concept aside, the Pill brings 12 watts of power across four 1-inch drivers into it's contoured frame, made up of metal grilles and soft-touch plastic. The rechargeable battery can pump out up to 7.5 hours of tunes, and offers NFC support for easy pairing with Bluetooth devices that support the standard (including the upcoming Lumia 920, HTC devices, and all Android Jelly Bean NFC smartphones--the iPhone doesn't have NFC support at this time.) A microphone is also built-in, allowing the Pill to also work as a speakerphone, and a physical audio input lets you connect devices that don't support Bluetooth as well. You can pick up the Pill Bluetooth speaker for $200.

Frank MillerFrank Miller Sued by Former Assistant...
     -- News Item

In the tradition of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo, legendary comic book artist Frank Miller appears tonight on TLC in the premiere of his own reality show: Meet the Millers.

In the debut episode, the award-winning creator and his current girlfriend Kimberly Cox interview a new assistant by testing her coping skills with hammers, phones and how many times she can watch the great one’s trifecta: Robocop 2, Robocop 3 and The Spirit.

Then hijinks ensue as Kimberly heads to a Korean deli to demand to speak to “kimchi,” whom she presumes is the owner, while Frank gives us a sneak preview of his latest graphic novel: The Right Winger & Hippie Puncher, a clever reworking of a rejected DC Comics pitch for The Dark Knight Returns Some More graphic novel.

In this episode we give you a look at the 2013 Ford Taurus Limited, focusing on the Active Park Assist feature. With Active Park Assist, the car takes car of parallel parking for you. That's right - THE CAR CAN PARK ITSELF! You simply hit a button to let the car know that you are looking to park, and it uses its sensors to find a space you'll fit into. Once it does, you're in charge of the gas and brake pedals, while the Taurus steers itself into the spot with perfection. Definitely a feature from the future that you can get on your Ford today.
