Albums Proliferate In USB Flash Drive
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Music, Portable Audio / Video, USB,
Mars Volta’s latest album, “The Bedlam in Goliath,” was released last month in a USB drive that included extras for $29.98. They have already sold out. We have mentioned the practice before and it seems to be spreading in popularity. Barenaked Ladies released Barenaked on a Stick in 2005 and since then other artists, such as JLo, have followed suit.
All Access, which put out drives by Ringo Starr and Matchbox Twenty, has gotten together with EMI, Warner Music Group and Universal Music to make USB bracelets. These have previously been sold at concerts from such musicians as Willie Nelson and the Black Crowes. If you saw the last Grammys, you might have noticed that Ringo wore one of his own. We call that free advertising at its finest.

The Big Skinny Wallet review
Posted by Sparky Categories: Accessories, Wearables, Misc. Tech, Product Reviews,
While overly-thick wallets are not an oft discussed problem in our modern world, having a big fat wad of a wallet in your pocket can lead to back strain and unsightly bulging of the pants. The folks over at Big Skinny have an ingenious (although blindingly obvious) solution: a line of thin, lightweight wallets.
We got our hands on two of their most popular models and took them for a spin. Check out our review after the jump, as well as our Big Skinny wallet image gallery.

Nobody makes plain t-shirts anymore. T-Groove is the latest in apparel with a built-in power unit and sound sensor which reacts to both the beat and frequency of the tunes being played. Obviously designed for those that seek attention on the dance floor, it can also be a fine companion to those who don’t have a date. The shirt requires 4 AAA batteries (not included) and the pack is removable so you can wash out all that partying you did the night before. Made of 100% cotton, it is available in 3 sizes for £19.99 (~$39.70) at Electric Planet.

Sanrio Targets Male Customer Base
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Corporate News, Design, Misc. Tech,
Say it ain’t so! In one of the last bastions of all things fem, Sanrio has found it fitting to create Hello Kitty products for young men after a Limited Edition collection proved popular. Included in the assortment will be t-shirts, watches, bags, and other articles in decidedly masculine shades of black and blue. No matter what the color, Sanrio seems confident that it will sell in Japan next month and not long after in other Asian countries and the U.S. Even with its slightly revamped image, you still have to be comfortable with yourself to wear one of these items, male or female.

The Diskette Handbag Provides Storage in a Whole New Way
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Wearables, Design,
While not Yankees vs. Red Sox proportions (yet), readers of this website may have noticed a war is raging between the Floppy Diskette and the Circuit Board for retro-chic domination. There are Diskette notepads and pen/pencil holders, while the Circuit Board has countered with a photo album, Christmas ornaments, cigar holder and more. Now the Diskette has struck back, this time with a tote bag for the ladies. It’s made of black vinyl covered with 12 floppies, contains lots of pockets for your gadgetry, and measures 7.4x10.6x4.5”. Perfect for that IT-lovin’ lady in your life. We can’t wait to see what the Circuit Board comes up with next. Available for $55 USD.

Zwinktopia has followed in the path of Armani in Second Life now that Shoebuy has decided to sell its products through the site. Paying with her/his ZCard, an avatar will receive an “exclusive” pair that will allow the “wearer” to perform a specific action for each brand. While this particular gimmick will probably wear off quickly in the typical Zwink user, the company is smart enough to make it a tie-in so that the two of you can click over to the Shoebuy site and select similar wearing apparel. That obviously means real $$ for the shoe conglomerate.

“w00t” has been announced as the word of the year by Merriam-Webster. Site visitors were asked to vote on 20 words and phrases that were derived from the most frequently searched words. The runner-up was facebook, followed by conundrum, quixotic, blamestorm, sardoodledom, apathethic, Pecksniffian, hypocrite, and charlatan.
Some believe the word “w00t” came from the obsolete word “whoot” (“hoot”,) while others believe it originated from the bunnies in Quake III. We are not surprised that it took the top award, since we have seen the word cropping up in such items as shirts, buttons, tree ornaments, mousepads, and this cap for $14.89, designed for those who actually know what it means.

Our friends from Tokyo Flash have informed us that they have a new watch in town. Twelve 5-9’s Q comes in a gun metal or brushed silver finish with a stainless steel strap and 26 multi-colored LEDs. Push a button once for a random pattern, twice to skip that function. As with other watches from TF, it will take a bit of work to be able to tell time with its 12-5-9 method. The first two lines show the hours, the next line depicts increments of ten minutes, and the bottom two show single minutes. Available with both Japanese and English instructions, it comes with a year warranty with a price of ¥15,900 ($144.72.)

Olympic Athletes Glow in the Dark
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Design, Misc. Tech,
This is what the well-dressed ski bum will be wearing in the future. Presented as part of Munich’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, the LED-lit ski suit was designed by Willy Bogner. Solar-powered, it has an optical output ration of 55 Lumens/Watts. Also featured was the “Private Space Suit” with its flexible LED panel that can go on a jacket or pants with a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours. We hope that Germany has a lot more sun during its winter than we do or the clothing will be merely expensive and gaudy.
