More hype for the new Batman movie means more bucks for the producers, so it is little wonder that we found this Dark Knight light-up tee. The shirt is made of 100% cotton and has a small unplugable battery pack for washing. The clever t-shirt goes from glow to pulsating and requires 2 AAA batteries (not included.) There is also a Joker version available. Temporarily out of stock, you can pre-order each of the shirts for £19.99 ($~39.00,) in time for the movie premiere in July.

We have seen lots of clothing for catching WiFi signals, so it is no surprise that Nike Dunks have the same built-in. Named “A Step in the Right Direction,” the sneakers were designed by MSTRPLN and Ubiq. There are 3 LEDs on the flap enclosure that will go solid when it registers a signal up to 50 meters. These are not the kind of shoes to wear on a rainy day, we suspect. Contact Nike for price and availability.

What better way to remind your child that she/he is on their way to obesity than to present them with a pair of FATS (Fitness Achievement Technology System) shoes. Created by students from the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands, the more the kids work out, the more the color appears. This is accomplished by a motion sensor integrated into the shoe’s heel that, along with glass fiber yarn woven on the outside, reflects the light from LEDs. While we think that most kidlets we know would prefer being rewarded with a twinkie or more video game time for exercising, we suspect that this prototype may work on the same little ones that wear those blinking light shoes for safety reasons.

iPod Onesie for Babies

If you are looking for a baby present, but the kid is too young for an iPod, what would be better than a Onesie to get the little nipper in the correct frame of mind? Unfortunately, it won’t change itself if you push a button and there is no mute. The American made garment is screen printed and available for $25.00 in a size of 6 to 12 months. Those greedy 3 to 6 month olds bought up all of them in the smaller size but you can pre-order for when they are back in stock. Of course, by then the infant will have outgrown it.

If you are a fan of Chuck Taylors, you might want to check out this pair of tennies that Cole Ranze originally designed and hand painted for a friend. We figure his bud passed as they are now up for grabs on eBay until April 13. He used screen printing ink to create the Nintendo characters and you can see the method to his madness or order a pair of your own by checking out his Website. By the way, these shoes don’t come cheaply. The current bid is at about $250.00.

We’ve brought you other crime-prevention apparel and gadgets in the past, such as the No-Contact Jacket and the Cell Phone Stun Gun. Joining the ranks is the meshy Knife-Proof T-Shirt. It’s made of “ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene fiber”—akin to the “aramid fiber” used to create body armor. With that caliber of fabric, we’re pleasantly surprised to learn the tee is also machine washable. The potentially life-saving tee will be available in Japan during June in both a short-sleeve ($190-$522 USD) and long-sleeve ($220-$590 USD) versions. However, the manufacturer, Nihon Uni, does not seem to have a website to order from.

Ladybag Alerts You to Missing Keys

Students at Canada’s Simon Fraser University have come up with an idea to remind you if you forgot your cell phone, keys, or other important items before you leave your home or office. Utilizing RFID technology, they have created the Ladybag. The handbag reacts by showing what is missing on its LED display. Taking it one step further, the bag reflects emotions via sensors. Grab its sides and it shows a happy face. Play with the zipper and it shows nervousness. While we are not sure that we like the second attribute, we can’t wait until this prototype is picked up by an enterprising backer.
