Casio Solar WatchCasio is working on Tough Movement for radio controlled solar watches. Using metal and plastic to reduce its weight, the chronograph style is reduced by 0.55mm while the analog is 4.11mm smaller. The watches will be shock resistant and have a hand correction with LED. The hands are detected at 55 minutes and correct themselves if the time doesn’t coincide with the IC counter. The company intends to use the technology on both their Oceanus and G-Shock series. Look for the GS-1200 to debut this September with a price of ¥42,000 (~$388.00) in Japan.

iShoeErez Lieberman, a Harvard-MIT graduate student, has devised the iShoe that will help physicians detect balance problems before falls occur. Given a $50,000.00 grant from the Lunar Ventures Competition to take it past the prototype stage, Lieberman originally developed the shoe for NASA to help them monitor balance problems incurred by astronauts after they return from space. While there he managed to come up with a new system for collecting data and an algorithm to analyze it.

Because his own grandmother had a bad fall a while back, Lieberman realized that the tech could help others. The iSole may also be equipped with an alarm that would let other family members know that a fall has occurred.

ArchPort ShoesFrom TV show to movie to reality. ArchPort founder and president Matt Potts has already incorporated a slot in the sole of his shoe for wallets, keys, and credit cards. The man says that he came up with the idea in 1989 when playing tennis. The sandals and sneakers are named for the storage location, and Potts says that he sees them carrying smaller GPS devices, remote controls, MP3 players, heaters, and yes, even a diminutive cell phone a la “Get Smart” in the future.

Koopa Cuff LinksAnd yet more retro gadgets rear their heads in the shape of NES koopas and other miscellaneous gamey creatures. “pixelparty” makes the Super Mario 3/4 x 1/2-inch jewelry out of shrinkydinks, plastic, and plain cufflinks. Each design will set you back $16.00, and if you don’t like what you see on his Etsy page, he is more than willing to create something pixellated just for you. Massage Me JacketWe think that the Massage me Jacket must have been designed by a couple of women whose men wouldn’t leave their gaming consoles. Hannah Perner-Wilson and Mika Satomi are behind the clothing made with a hacked Playstation Controller that takes two to use. One wears the jacket and the other treats the users back as a gamepad, since it has soft, flexible buttons. As long as the game lasts, the wearee earns the real bonus. The duo tells you give you some DIY tips on their site. We’ll take several, please.
