Yesterday, Google Wave was introduce at the Day 2 keynote of Google I/O. It’s pretty hard to give Google Wave a decent explanation, because it does so many things in new, amazing ways. Think of it as a hyper-communication tool that allows you to communicate with people, services, sites, etc. in brand new ways. The build of Google Wave demoed in the video is still very early, and just shows a fraction of what the final product will be able to do. You really do have to see it to believe it though. Oh, and I think that this is also evidence that HTML5 will officially, undoubtedly, rock.

Video: Zune HD interface, hands-on

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Handhelds, Microsoft, Music, Portable Audio / Video, Videos,
Our friends over at Giz got a nice hands-on look at the Zune HD (which we happen to be giving away in our Zune HD contest), and have even got a quick interface tour on video. It’s only about a minute-and-a-half long, so don’t expect it to go too in-depth or anything, but it certainly shows how fast and responsive the Zune HD interface is, in comparison to that of the iPhone or iPod touch. Seriously, check out how fast the images respond to the accelerometer. We can’t wait for this thing to launch.

Perhaps Steve Wozniak will give up his Segway now. Nine months ago it could only go about 2 feet off the ground, but now the Martin Jetpack can soar up to about 8,000 ft. A typical trip will last about 30 minutes at a speed up to 60mph. This is no simple toy for the curious, Due out later in the year, purchasing one of the first 10 will cost you $100,000.00, training included.

Video: iPhone tethering and MMS in action

We all know that two of the new features being introduced in iPhone 3.0 are MMS and Internet tethering. Well, it looks like someone was able to get those hidden features up and running in the latest iPhone 3.0 beta 4 software, as evidenced by the video above. Give it a look to see how Internet tethering with the iPhone will work over Bluetooth, as well as USB, as well as a look at sending and receiving MMS messages. Consider us psyched.

iTie With Hidden Pocket

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Portable Audio / Video, Videos,
The iTie is a unique idea that combines the formal apparel with a hidden pocket in the back. Store business cards, credit cards, honey do lists, pens, Certs or your MP3 player, although there is no way to disguise those earplugs. A larger version is being developed for iPhones, BlackBerrys and other larger handhelds. Because they are individually homemade the cost will vary, so you need to contact them to order one.The scary thing about this clothing is that they think they need Billy Mays to hock it (check out the product page.)

You see, this is why we have Twitter. There are just some things that you want to share with the world, but they are things that would just be downright asinine to share in public. Instead, you do it behind the veil of your Twitter account. Don’t understand? Check the video above from CollegeHumor for a better explanation, and while you’re at it, follow me on Twitter.

Video: Rethinking the way we sit down

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Design, Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Videos,
After watching Niels Diffrient, creator of the Freedom Chair, talk about how he approached chair design from a whole new perspective, we had to share it. The talk was given in 2002 at TED, so it isn’t new by any means, but it’s very cool to hear the details of how Niels came to completely rethink the office chair, using the human body as his fundamental data set.

YouTube Symphony Orchestra Goes On Tour

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music, Videos,
Those who say social networking sites have no redeeming qualities haven’t heard of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. Less than 100 were chosen from more than 3,000 submissions and participated in a 3 day workshop before playing at Carnegie Hall last night. Next they will be going on a worldwide tour. Check out the official site to see who won as well as the full performance.

Want to know what it would feel like to hop into a black hole without having to travel in space and actually doing it? Andrew Hamilton and Gavin Polhemus at the University of Colorado built a computer code which is based on Einstein’s general theory of relativity. The “participant” goes on an orbit into the hole that weighs 5 million times the mass of the sun. Starlight behind the black hole is swallowed up, however light from other ones are merely bent. They are hoping that the knowledge will help physicists understand the inner workings of the hole.

Confirmed: Twitter officially coming to OnStar

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Internet, Transportation, Videos,
After speaking with an OnStar rep, we can now undoubtedly tell you that Twitter is most definitely coming to GM’s OnStar service. I was actually featured in a piece here on Seattle’s KING 5 News, where I talked a bit about the features that OnStar is saying will be available. On the flip-side, they also talk to a Washington State Patrol officer, who says that even though this would be a hands-free activity, it is just one more thing that is taking your mind off of driving.
OnStar didn’t give us a timeframe for when the Twitter integration would launch, but hey, at least now you know that our original Twitter on OnStar article wasn’t an April Fools joke…although, Trooper Brandon Lee’s bow tie very well might be.
As always, you can follow Gear Live on Twitter.
