Bitcasa promises infinite file storage for cheap

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Internet, Storage, Videos,
We've been intrigued by a Bitcasa since we learned about the service a little over a week ago. The promise of the company is that they offer "infinite storate on your desktop" - a one-stop shop for storing all of your data, regardless of how much data you have. We've heard similar claims in the past from other companies, but they quickly renegged and changed terms to a tiered model. We're used to hearing terms like "unlimited" thrown around by wireless carriers, but even they will start throttling your data (or shutting it off) if you use too much of your unlimited allotment. That's actually why Bitcasa uses the term "infinite" instead of "unlimited" - they really want you to know that they mean what they say. The company was founded by a crew from companies like Mastercard, VeriSign, and Mozy, so it's easy to imagine that things like security and data protection would be taken seriously.
We can't vouch for the service just yet, but we will be getting access soon and will report back with our thoughts. In the meantime, check out the video above, and register for the Bitcasa beta yourself if you want to give the service a try.

Wacom Inkling is a digital pen for artists

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Accessories, Design, Handhelds, Videos,
We've long been fans of the Livescribe pens, a tool that lets you hand-write notes that are then digitized and available immediately on your computer; it's a handy tool for journalists or students. Wacom on Tuesday announced a similar product, this time geared toward artists and visual thinkers: the Wacom Inkling.
The Inkling is a "digital sketch pen" that allows you to draw or sketch on any standard piece of paper (a big advantage over Livescribe, which requires special notebooks) and automatically have a digital version created. The pen looks like a regular ballpoint pen, but is much more powerful than that. As you draw, sketches, mind-maps, or brainstorms all get captured, pen stroke by pen stroke. You can even create layers as you sketch, and edit drawings even easier when you get back to the computer. Files can be accessed in applications like Photoshop and Illustrator, or just viewed on the computer.

Video: Motorola begins teasing the Droid Bionic

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Google, Handhelds, Videos,
The Droid Bionic is a woman! Motorola on Wednesday released the teaser video, "Rule All Machines," for its upcoming Droid Bionic smartphone.
And like in previous ads, the video personifies the device rather than show any part of the actual phone (see below); the latest Droid incarnation is a black leather-clad assassin with a bit of a Black Widow-meets-Droid logo edge.
No, no details yet on an actual launch date or price. The Droid Bionic is arguably Motorola's most highly anticipated product this year, perhaps because it has been delayed since, well, January. The Bionic was hit with one delay after another, forcing Verizon to release a statement explaining that it was undergoing some design revisions. No price has been announced, but an alleged advertisement pegged the phone at $300.

Video: iPhone 5 clone shows cool form factor, horrible UI

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Rumors, Videos,
Remember those images of the black iPhone 5 clone that we featured a couple of weeks ago? Well, now we've got some video footage taking a look at a white iPhone 5 clone. It's the same form factor as the black phone, and we're pretty sure that this is what the iPhone 5 is going to end up looking like when Apple finally takes the stage to introduce their next smartphone. However, we are still holding out hope for a larger display, and the software on these clones is pretty bad. What do you think?

Video: How iOS 5 Notification Center should really perform

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Software, Videos,
Have a look at the Notification Center overhaul that Jan-Michael Cart put together. iOS 5 and its Notification Center won't even be publicly available until the fall, and already this guy has made it look old and busted with his much-improved user interface. Kudos.
