Dream ChickIt may be a little too late for us this Easter, but this robot Dream Chick will keep until next year. The bot, unveiled by Sega Toys, fits in your palm and makes cheeping noises, then moves its wings when you give it a friendly pat. At a size of 65 × 60 × 95 mm and powered by batteries, this can be a great companion for many pre-existing and mostly useless robo-pets, such as Sega’s dogs, cats, and ponies, who could surely use a furry friend when their owners tire of listening to their endless chattering. They will be available through Sega Toys for 2,310 Yen (~$19.00.)

RGMC

What do engineering students do in their spare time? During the spring they are gearing up for the annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest at Purdue, which took place last weekend. This year’s problem to solve was to peel an orange, juice it, and pour at least one teaspoon’s worth into a cup. Further rules stated that a minimum of 20 steps must be used and the gadgets must be limited by 5 x 6 x 6-ft. with no explosives, fire, or live animals.

The winning team from Ferris State University managed to stretch the process to 345 steps, breaking Purdue’s previous record of 125 steps. It began with a bell ringing which triggered a line of toy cars that traveled down a chute and up a Jacob’s ladder, causing dominoes to fall and start a train. The vehicle went down a track, causing a hobby horse to drop. After several more steps, a mixture of Diet Coke and Mentos exploded, hit a target, and the orange was squeezed and poured. We didn’t believe it either until we found the video that captured the event. Way to go, Bulldogs.

Dumb Tape MeasureIf you are the type who runs out and buys every “For Dummies” book you can get your hands on, our buds at Stupid have just the tool for you. On the outside it looks just like every other tape measure (well, almost,) but pull the tape out and it will literally measure distance in feet. Made of metal, the Dummy product features a locking mechanism and will set you back $5.99. We’re curious about one thing. If you are using this tool, why are you trying to construct something in the first place?

SudokubeWe’re betting many of you are looking at the image and headline of this story, smacking your head and saying, “Now why didn’t I think of that?”. Yes, it’s Sudokube, a combo of two of the most popular puzzles of the modern era: Rubik’s Cube and Sudoku. For the unfamiliar, Sudokube is basically a Rubik’s Cube, but with numbers. Instead of matching colors, you align the numbers from 1-9 on each side. As with Sudoku, we’re betting it’s a lot harder than it sounds, but tons of fun. Sudokube measures 2.16 x 2.16” and is available for just under $10 USD.

DescriptionDon’t you hate it when you see a cop parked on the median, on a busy highway, in the middle of the night, in a small town, and he/she is pointing one of those speed-checking ray guns at you? Although obviously meant for kids and amateur baseball pitchers, the Hot Wheels Radar Gun lets you clock an object coming or going. With a point-and-click LCD screen, Mattel is asking the modest price of $29.99. The gun utilizes 4 AAA batteries (not included.) We’re going to get one for our next late night jaunt, and aim it at the first speeding cop we can find. We might even make a citizen’s arrest.
