Not content to be merely battery bunny kings, Energizer has created a USB recharger that can handle 2 NiMH AAA batteries in two hours or 2 AA in five. The Energizer Duo can also work with a wall outlet and comes with a Mac or Windows widget so that you can see the level of charge on your desktop. The device will be available in red, green, or blue for an MSRP of $13.99, batteries included. Contact Energizer for availability so that your battery-powered bunny can just keep going, and going…

Barbie Girls: MP3 Players for the Pink Set

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Portable Audio / Video, Toys,

Remember when Barbie was all about playhouses, clothing, and Ken? Well now she’s gone all high-tech on us! Barbie manufacturer Mattel now has a new “Barbie Girls” online community, where young girls can chat and play games together, with a companion Barbie Girl MP3 player coming soon. The device plays music stored on 512 mb internal memory with an expansion slot for an miniSD card. Plus, BFF’s can sync their players with each other’s desktops—and engage in super-private “Secret B Chat”, which faintly reminds us of another chatting device for girls, also from Mattel. The Barbie Girls will be available for $60 USD in July.

We recently told you about the Mario Kart Race Track Set, which brings the classic video game to life in your own living room. Now comes a great way to re-enact the game (at least somewhat) anywhere you go: the Mario Kart Remote Control Racer. This cool toy not only features the game’s sound effects, it has a “Turbo” function, and you steer it with a GameCube-like controller! At over 12” long, this toy is pretty large, so be sure to slide pets and loved ones out of the way before playing. We’re hoping more Mario Kart characters will get the R/C treatment soon…just imagine the possibilities. Requires a 9-volt and 8—yes, eight—AA batteries (not included). Available for $50 USD.

When you have partied a little too hearty and can’t quite get up, let this Butler lend you a hand, literally. Pressure activated, place some Chex Mix in its hand, point it in the right direction, and the gadget is on its way. In theory, it should even stop short of the table edge. Available for $19.95 and requiring 2 C batteries (not included,) we are thinking this would make a great companion piece for the Addams family’s Cousin Itt, who never seemed to make it out of the box.

SanDisk Sansa Shaker: MP3 Player for Kids

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Portable Audio / Video, Toys,

Techie gadgets geared toward kids is a booming business, and SanDisk has joined the bandwagon with its Sansa Shaker MP3 player. Besides being awfully cute, the Shaker has a built-in speaker, two headphone jacks for sharing (awwww), and internal 512MB, which can be expanded with an SD card. White bands on the top and bottom have all the navigation controls. There’s also a mysterious “shake” feature, although SanDisk isn’t revealing what that is yet. We admit to being slightly uncomfortable with kids
using headphones at a young age, so parents may want to check out these headphones. The Shaker will be available soon, for $40 USD.

Bring Your Mii into the Real World with MiiSculptures

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Internet, Toys, Video Games,

One of the many things we love about our Wii are the Miis, the imaginary characters you create yourself and use to play Wii games with. The Miis are even the focus of Nintendo’s current ad campaign for the Wii. It’s a fact that people get very attached to their Miis, and if you’re one of them, we have a website for you: MiiSculptures.com. That’s right, just provide a photo of your Mii, and the artists at MiiSculptures will create an actual sculpture (that’s Bill Gates above). Strangely, we can’t find pricing on their website, so we suggest you contact them before ordering. However, they do offer free international shipping. You’ll receive your new friend 3-4 weeks after your order is placed.

Webkinz Welcomes Toddlers to the Internet

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Internet, Toys,

In a rather odd attempt to combine the real world with the Internet for younger children, Webkinz is hoping that their idea is the ideal prequel to MySpace. After purchasing one of their stuffed animals, your child registers it online with its secret code. As your kidlets play games, answer trivia, and care for their virtual pets, they earn KinzCash which can be traded for furniture, clothing, etc.
The company will also be setting up the KinzChat Plus for your toddlers that restricts messages so that they cannot post or receive proper names, mispelled words, or innappropriate language. We appreciate the efforts to teach newbies the Internet ropes, but can’t parents do that without the commercialism?

USB Mouse Clocks Your Speed

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, USB, Misc. Tech, Toys,
This little guy was just too cute to pass by (pun intended.) Plug him into your USB port and the Speed Typing Mouse cycles on his stationary bike, and then lets you know just how fast you are typing on his LCD display. Unfortunately, it will let everyone else in the office know, too. If you are like many of us that peek at the keyboard after a very long day, that might be a good indication that it is time to turn the little rodent off. Pre-order the Speed Typing Mouse from drinkstuff for a price of £19.99 (~$40.00) for delivery early next month.

R2D2 Action Figure is the Real Deal

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Toys, Wireless / WiFi,
If you couldn’t afford the full-sized R2D2 and missed out on the Trash Talker, take hope, for there is a new droid in town. The fully licensed action figure-sized R2 runs around your desk guided by its light saber remote. He can go forward or turn, makes the usual noises, turns his head, and has a red LED eye. Running on included batteries, you can conduct your own Star Wars for only $29.99 from ThinkGeek. Almost more than we like the gadget, we like the clever way the online retailer is advertising it on YouTube. Better hurry if you want the bot for yourself, for supplies are limited.
