Salvation Helicopter

There are oodles of radio controlled helicopters out there, but the Salvation, originally conceived on the ITV1 television show, is one of the best we have seen. With three channels you can fly all directions with proportional control for accuracy. One charge allows 10 to 15 minutes of flight time and recharging only takes about 50 minutes. The device uses two included 9.6 batteries for the ‘copter and the transformer, and is set to land at BBTrades August 20 for £49.99 (~$ 102.64.)

(Thanks, Ian)

McDonalds Video Games

What’s wrong with this picture? Beginning August 10, McDonald’s Happy Meals (or Happy Sets, as they are known there) will feature the simplistic video games. Tots will be treated to F1 Race, Music Drum, PK Soccer, Rhythmic Dance, Bowling, and Bike Racing. Currently kids in other parts of the planet get Hello Kitty stickers and phony Speed Racers. It’s time to protest. Let’s all fill out those “How can we serve you better?” postcards and demand that we get the simplistic but still mega-better toys.

USB ChessJudging from all the wacky gadgets we’ve featured from their website, we suspect the folks at Brando are a fun, if slightly nutty, bunch. But lo and behold they clearly have a cerebral side, too, as evidenced by their USB Chess Set, allowing you to play against your computer with real live chess pieces (you can also play against a friend). Ideal for both beginners and seasoned chess pros, as you can track (and record) your moves, obtain hints, and email results to your friends. Plus, the set is portable: just roll up the board and you’re good to go. The Brando website states the USB Chess Set is compatible with Windows XP, so we don’t know if Vista (and pre-XP) users can join in the fun. Available for $42 USD.

Wii Fishing Pole

So, -owners, we just  told you about Wii-mote frying pan and utensil extensions, to enhance your “Cooking Mama” experience. While we secretly wait for “Trauma Center” attachments, we bring you the Wii Fishing Pole add-on, for that “you are there” feeling while playing Wii fishing games. The pole extends from approximately 21 to 51 inches and is even retractable! As with all Wii add-ons, it adds “realism” to the game, but we suggest using it only around those who truly “get you”. Available for $19 USD.

Then, take your show on the road and win a million bucks on our guiltiest pleasure, “America’s Got Talent”.  When you do, don’t forget to show us a little love. Blue Earth DiscWe recently sang the praises of Sega’s Homestar Planetarium Pro, and we have just found out that this September we will be treated to its latest software, the Blue Earth Disc. The original gadget, designed by Takayuki Ohira, came with two colored star discs and one of the moon, while this one is a detailed CG of what our very own planet looks like from space. Expect its debut this September. If all goes according to Al Gore’s plan, perhaps the next one will have a slight green tinge to it.

Civil Liberties MugThe perfect gift for your politically conservative buds just may be the Disappearing Civil Liberties Mug. What appears to be the entire text of the Bill of Rights turns into what remains of them, thanks to the Patriot Act, when you add a hot liquid. For only $19.00 at the Museum Store, we think this would also be a great idea as a party favor next time you attend a $500.00 a plate fund-raising campaign, although those that are running may not share the joke with you.
