Push-up CounterKonami knows that anyone who does more than about 3 push-ups can’t keep his/her breath and count at the same time, so they have created the Push-up Counter (or, as they call it in the Babelfish translation, “the arm counter.”) At a size of 75 x 118 x 135 mm, you and your buds can try for its limit of 999 by chin or chest, but we both know none of you will get that far. Available in Japan, the battery operated (not included) gadget goes for ¥1764 (~$15.00.)

Robbie the RobotYou can now have your very own B-9 Environmental Control Robot from the old sci-fi series “Lost in Space.” Robbie is 6 1/2 feet tall, is remote controlled and has been created based on the original molds, patterns, and blueprints. He moves left and right and his soil sampler spins and whirs and analyzes. With a 240 watt audio system, Robbie speaks 511 pre-recorded phrases by the bot’s original voice, Richard Tufeld. He also comes with a lifetime guarantee (his or ours?) We figure his first words will be, “Danger Will Robinson, I cost $24,000.00.”

Anti-Ticket DonutWe have all made some of those traffic errors and gotten tickets that might have been ignored with the proper bribery. The Anti-Ticket Donut is designed for those occasions. When the police officer asks you to produce your registration and license, reach right into your glove compartment and offer him/her the chocolate ($8.75) or sprinkled ($9.95) treat-in-a-tin. Of course, the donut is made of plastic, but we figure you can always stop at Krispy Kreme for the real thing if you are heading towards a known speed trap. Besides, it would make a great gift for your uncle, Chief Wiggum.

Japan’s Yu Nakajima has become the 2007 Rubik’s Cube World Champ. The sixteen year-old managed to solve the classic 3 x 3-inch puzzle with an average time of 12.46 seconds after five attempts. His speed earned him the top award of $7,000. Over 250 contestants from 33 different countries took part in the event in Hungary, where the game was invented in 1974. Other competitors manipulated the cube with one hand, blindfolded, and with their feet, on 3, 4, and 5-inch sized puzzles. Our only question is, who has enough time to sit around and play with Erno’s invention with his/her feet?

Flying ChickenWe don’t know why we are always attracted to flying gadgets. Maybe it stems from boredom at work and the search for the perfect replacement for the spitwad. The Flying Screaming Chicken is approximately 30 cm in length and is made with elastic wings. Insert your finger in his head, pull back, and he off he goes, squawking as he flies. (You would probably squawk too, if somebody flung you.) The Chicken is available at Gobaz, batteries included, for only £3.49 ($6.81.)

RC CarNext time you take a plane trip, don’t bring your RC gadgets along with you. The Transportation Security Administration said this week, “It appears that terrorists may have an interest to use these remote-control toys as a means to initiate devices used in a terrorist attack.”

A Congressional Research Service claims that the toys have been improvised by both U.S. and Iraqi troops so that they can be run into unsuspecting areas and explode insurgent bombs, while the remotes can be set to trigger explosive devices. The only problem we see with this is that every time we are told that we cannot bring something on an airplane, those that make the announcements tell everyone, including the potential bad guys. Perhaps we should also caution Radio Shack not to open an outlet in the Middle East.
