Lomak Assists The Physically Impaired
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Misc. Tech, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
The New Zealand-based Lomak (Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard) is a fine device that can be used with any application for those who have trouble with a standard mouse and keyboard. Its pointer emits a beam of light that can be controlled by hand or attached to a head, then directed at the input device with no additional software needed. The 2007 IDEA Design Awards liked it so much that they gave it a gold medal. Check with Lomak for price and availability.

Logitech Products For Ergonomically Correct Fingers
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
Logitech went back to the drawing board and came up with a Cordless Desktop Wave Keyboard and Mouse that are all about finger comfort. The keyboard features a U-shaped constant curve with a contoured palm rest, while the LX8 Cordless Laser Mouse has ergonomically correct sides and soft rubber grips. For a real chuckle, check out the Press Release. We just didn’t realize how our fingers were suffering by using our present keyboards and how much they will appreciate the Comfort Wave Design that is highest at the “A,” “G,” “H,” and “Enter” keys with the maximum distance between the keys’ peaks and troughs being a scientifically devised 4 mm.
The package includes a USB mini-receiver and extension cord, a plastic dust cover, 4 AA batteries, and runs on Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS X (10.2.8 or later.) The combination will be available beginning in late August for $89.99, while a stand-alone keyboard will make its debut in October with a MSRP of $49.99.

The Mickey Mouse Mouse
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
We’re wondering if Mickey Mouse is secretly jealous of Remy, the rodent-of-the-moment and star of Pixar’s smash hit “Ratatouille”. Why? Because maybe Mick feels the need to up his profile, hence the sudden glut of Mickey Mouse gadgets, including an MP3 player, USB wrist band and now—USB optical mouse. The peripheral not only contains a removeable toy Mickey, but features LED lights for that extra pizazz. We think it’s time Disney make a computer-animated movie starring our old friend, before his attention-seeking antics reach Britney-like proportions.

MX Air Mouse is Designed for the Terminally Lazy
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, Music, Peripherals, Wireless / WiFi,
If you don’t want to get up to change music tracks on your computer, Logitech’s new wireless MX Air Mouse uses a combination of Freespace and motion control so anyone can point, select, and play without getting up from the sofa. Want to change the volume? A simple gesture to the left or right increases or decreases it. Circle your hand to the right to skip tracks or move it left to repeat the tune. Logitech has even replaced the scroll wheel with a touch-sensitive panel that is gauged by the speed of your finger and features buttons for play/pause, select, back, and volume/mute.
The MX works on a combination of MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) sensors, DSP, and RF wireless technologies, with some sophisticated algorithms thrown in to make it more capable. Rechargeable, the mouse offers a range of up to 30 feet and will become available in August at an MSRP of $149.99. We’re all for any new laser gadget that can do the work with half the effort.

Mouse Scans For Counterfeit Bills
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
There is no longer a reason for shopkeepers to use those obvious pens at check-out that humiliate you when they suspect your bills or gift certificates are
may be counterfeit. Embotec’s EM-D275 can identify the funny money with an adapted lens controlled by a scroll button in as little as 13 seconds. Available this month, there is no word yet on pricing, but we feel it will probably pay for itself the first time a bad $100.00 is found.

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, Misc. Tech, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
Ok, so we all know someone (maybe you) who would drool at the sight of the accompany photo. Yes, they’re baseball and football mice, perfect for that stat-quoting, face paint-wearing sports fanatic in your life. At $9 USD they’re inexpensive enough, we’re just concerned about comfort, as neither appears to be ergonomically-friendly. But if updating your football fantasy league with a pigskin-shaped mouse is your version of nirvana, what’s a little discomfort? Not surprisingly, the baseball mouse is currently sold out, so football fans better hurry!

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, USB, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
We’ve certainly brought you quite a few USB-powered gadgets that are a little on the wacky side, but here’s one that just about everyone can use, especially business travelers. It’s the USB Shredder by Kinlan Industrial, a handheld shredder powered by either 4 AA batteries, AC adapter, or of course, USB. Just turn it on and it can shred sensitive documents on the go, including standard-size ones, as it is 10” long (and weighs only 12 ounces). Just make sure you have something to catch all that shredded paper in. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find pricing information on this handy item, so stay tuned…

Boomslang To Become Available in Collector’s Edition
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: PC / Laptop, Peripherals, Video Games,
In response to what they claim to be “legions of fans,” Razer has re-released its Boomslang Mouse in a Collector’s Edition. Covered in titanium with an eerie green glow, only 10,000 will be available globally. The oval Boomslang made its initial debut this week in Sweden at the DreamHack Expo. It features 5 buttons with programmable Hyper-response, an 1800 dpi 3G infrared sensor with 1000Hz ultrapolling 1ms response, 32KB of memory, and a 16-bit ultra-wide data channel. The Boomslang CE will be available online from the Razer store and other retailers for $99.99. We think this is one pretty peripheral at a very pretty price.
