Penguin Flash DriveWho doesn’t love penguins? The success of Oscar winners “March of the Penguins” and “Happy Feet” proves the world adores that quirky, comical flightless bird. Gadget-wise, we’ve featured the shower radio and iPenguin, which yours truly—who has collected penguins for too many years to mention— happily owns. Now comes the 1GB Penguin Flash Drive, which includes the very handy ReadyBoost technology for Vista users. The penguin’s head actually protects the USB connector…just flip it up and you’re good to go. Impossibly cute and functional, we think Linux users (and fellow penguin-philes) will love it. The 1GB Penguin Flash Drive is available in Black/White or Black/Gray for approx. $34 USD.

Description It’s easy to become addicted to the beauty of more screen real estate on your machine. Once you’ve used two displays, you really hate to go back to a single anemic, constrained display. I tend to work with an extremely fractured workflow, with dozens of windows open at any point in time. Being able to, for instance, keep code on one screen and Firefox for debugging on another is ridiculously useful. However, when configuring our office, we realized we’d prefer to issue laptops to our coders instead of separate desktop and laptop machines. Laptops offer the additional perk of being able to bring them home and use them as a personal machine, and if they can function as a proper workstation at the office, why buy both?

The problem is that we also wanted to equip everyone with two of Dell’s gorgeous 2007WFP 20.1” widescreen displays. Now, short of purchasing a far-more-expensive, behemoth Alienware Aurora m9700 (one of just a few dual-display driving, enormous laptops), the only reasonable game in town is Matrox’s DualHead2Go Digital Edition.

Colby /Monitor/TVCoby has come up with a “two-fer.” Use the TF-DVD 1591 flatscreen as a monitor with its 1024 x 768 resolution and 15-inch TFT LCD or utilize it as a TV with its built-in tuner. Even more creative is its slot-loading DVD player neatly packaged on the side. The digital device has a 500:1 contrast ratio, built-in speakers, a size of 15.18 x 15.37 x 2.16-inches, and is wall mountable. It comes with a full function remote and AV cable and has a MSRP of $293.00.

EZKey Mouse

If you’re a laptop-carrying number-cruncher on the road a lot, you probably long for your desktop computer’s numeric pad. Well, we’ve found a peripheral for you. It’s the EZKey, a two-button scroll mouse - that is, until its plastic casing is flipped up. At that point, it becomes a numeric keypad, perfect for all your arithmetic needs. Looks a tad bulky, and frankly, we’re not convinced it’s ergonimcally-correct. But sometimes it’s all about convenience, right? The EZKey is not available yet and there’s no word on pricing, but we think it’s a gadget worth keeping an eye on.
