Apple introduces LED Cinema Display: 24-inch, $899
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
After many years of remaining stagnant, Apple finally gave their Cinema Display line a nice redesign. The new 24” LED Cinema Display looks similar to what you’d find in an iMac. Aluminum casing, black bezel along the front, LED backlit, built-in MagSafe connector, and a built-in iSight camera with microphone. That last one is something we’ve been waiting for, for far too long. Unfortunately, not everything is all fun and games with the new Cinema Display, as it appears that - at least for the time being - these new Cinema Displays are only compatible with the new MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air that were announced today, which all incorporate the DisplayPort. There is currently no way to connect a Mac Pro, iMac, or older notebook to one of these. Let’s hope this gets remedied quickly.
You can pick up the new 24-inch LED Cinema Display in November for $899.

SlingCatcher now available for purchase
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Internet, Peripherals, Videos,
Yesterday, our pals over at Sling Media announced that their long-awaited SlingCatcher was finally shipping and hitting store shelves. The unit, which “catches” what’s being “pitched” by a SlingBox, the Internet, or an attached USB storage device, has been available for pre-order for the past month. Our only real problem with the device at this time is that some of the main functionality is only available to those running Windows XP SP2 or Vista, OS X users are out of luck for now on the really cool feature that lets you highlight a portion of your screen for the SlingCatcher to capture and display on a television.
The SlingCatcher can be had for $299.99. If you wanna see it in action, check out our video after the jump.

Vocal Joystick Needs No Hands
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: PC / Laptop, Peripherals, Science, Storage,
The University of Washington has designed Vocal Joystick software to assist those with disabilities. “Ahh” means go northwest, “ooo” makes it go south, and “ohh” makes the cursor go southeast. Vowel sounds make circles, while the voice volume controls the speed. A simple clicking noise opens a link. The researchers have already tested their joystick at the UW Medical Center and are about to begin the next round. The system only needs a mic, a PC with sound card and a voice to operate.

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Misc. Tech, Movies, Peripherals,
ViewSonic’s N2201w LCD has PC monitor capabilities and a built-in DVD player. With 1080i HD and a resolution of 1680x1050, the 22-inch screen has a response time of 5ms and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Compatible with ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital TV, it has HDMI 1.3 and composite inputs. The N2201w is available for $429.00. While we like the idea of combining components, we know from experience that if you buy something that combines them, half of it will break down before the other and getting it fixed will be expensive and a pain.

There is now a Super Tiny Keyboard for travelers or those with super tiny fingers. The low keycap notebook device has 56 keys, number lock function, silent switch and USB port accessibility. At a size of 170 x 73 x 15mm and a weight of 116 g, it comes with a retractable cable and carries a MSRP of $25.00. Looking at it close up, we like the smallness, but it would take some getting used to if you now have a humongous keyboard (or super big fingers.)
