Regal Guest ResponseSome Regal Cinemas have installed new paging devices in an effort to bring people out of their Netflix widescreen habit and back into the real world, but mainly in 114 of their theaters. Similar to a remote, the Guest Response System can let customers complain about movie glitches, screaming children, obnoxious boors, and those ladies with extra-large hats. The best part is that it features a cam so that you can rat on

record video pirates who are lurking about and send a message to the theater manager.

Regal says that movie patrons “can be our extra eyes and ears to alert us if there is a disturbance without having to miss part of the show.” It seems to us they could just hire a couple more ushers and use the money to knock down the price of tickets to get us to return to their chain. To join the Regal Crown Club “loyalty program” and find the theater nearest to you, check Regal’s site.

Double-Sided Home Theater

This home theater, designed by Harmony Interiors, can not only play to a roomful of people, it can accommodate the viewing pleasures of those on the other side of the screen. Designed as a Golf Dream Home at the Jack Nicklaus Signature community in North Carolina, it features an outdoor motorized 11 x 7-foot phantom screen that can be seen from the porch or the lawn with its own putting green.

It also comes with a SharpVision XV-Z3000 video projector, a projector lift located on the ceiling for storing when not in use, and a Bose AV 38 Media Center for DVDs, music, and high-definition cable programs. It also includes a built-in Visable amp, a subwoofer, Bose Jewel, Adapt IQ, and FreeSpace environmental speakers, and has a Universal remote control MX3000 touchscreen.

Imagine being able to watch this 2007 Home of The Year award winner and practice along with the pros at the same time. You may not have to be a Tiger Woods, but hopefully you have enough expertise to putt away without endangering the equipment.

Enterprise

British lottery officials report that they get many requests for grants from private citizens. One of them was from a Trekkor who wanted to recreate The Enterprise as a “safe haven.”

“Applicants will only get funding for projects that benefit the wider community,” said Carole Souter, chairperson of Lottery Forum, the group that awards grants.

Other requests include a bid to respray a man’s Ford Cortina, a means of publishing evidence to prove Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton were wrong, to set up a dinosaur farm, and to fund dog toilets. Come to think of it, it might be kind of nice to hang with the likes of Star Trek’s William Shattner and Leonard Nimoy, just in case they decide to make a guest appearance.

Spidey 3You can’t go anywhere without running into those “free hours of AOL” discs that aren’t really free. If nothing else, they make good coasters. Yesterday, we were visiting our local camera shop and noticed giveaway DVDs, geared towards promoting “Spiderman 3.” Content is supposed to include “the story, movie clips (including behind-the-scenes,) challenge game preview, cheat codes, and a chance to win a 2007 Mitsubishi Spyder, downloads, and product information.” Alrighty, we thought, fun freebies, but deep in our heart of hearts, we thought it might be too good to be true.

Here’s what we really got:

  • A written synopsis of the movie.
  • A trailer and 2:30 minute promo of cast and crew telling us how great the movie “Spiderman 3” is.
  • A Challenge Game that began April 2 and ended May 4, the premiere date. No challenge, no cheats.
  • Five non-exclusive wallpaper choices and 1 screensaver.
  • A blatant commercial for Sony’sVaio Series PC/Laptop, Cybershot Cameras, Alpha DSMR Camera, and Handycam Camcorders.

Thanks Sony, for the new cupholder.

(Thanks, Mike)

DV Keyboard

Editing can be an incredibly time-consuming task if you are a perfectionist. Bella USA has released a Professional Series 3.0 DV keyboard to help you along. It features a built-in jog/shuttle controller, specialty keys, easily installed software, NeoLite with 2 LEDs, a built-in wrist rest, and two USB ports for high-speed connection. While we appreciate the idea of the keyboard aiding us in our editing efforts, its price of $189.99 seems a large investment for all those pretty-colored keys.

Shrek GameChia Shrek

Two weeks after the opening of Spiderman 3 will be its competitor Shrek 3, premiering May 18. Coming out the same day is the Activision Game of the same name. Although the game can be played with Shrek, Donkey, or Puss, you really have to be a fanatic of the ogre to want to scratch your backside the way he does when paused. Constantly amazed at the array of toys and gadgets franchised in conjunction with movies/game releases, we managed to find one that Spidey had not found first. Chia Shrek or Donkey, anyone?
