Discover Bollywood With iTalkies
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, Internet, Movies, Music,
iTalkies has adopted Netflix’s idea and the company, which is based in Seattle, has been delivering Bollywood titles since 2004. Now they have expanded and are available to residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Shaiwal Singh, the company’s founder and CEO, says that there are over 5,000 titles of Indian films in seven languages and features both popular films and award-winners. We like this idea and wonder if it could be the beginning of a trend that will include such individualized online services as iChickFlick and iFreddyKruger.

Bootleg Sniffing Dogs Receive Rewards
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, Movies, Portable Audio / Video, Science,
Our props to Lucky and Flo, two honest-to-goodness DVD-sniffing dogs who received medals after ending a 6 month assignment in Malaysia. The two black labs managed to find 1.6 million illegal movie discs, three DVD replicating machines, and 97 compact disc burners, valued at $6 million. They even went as far as discovering some behind a false wall. Although they cannot tell real from bootleg, their handlers can. The canine cops will be traveling to New York, where they will strut their stuff in the Big Apple. We think the officials should have just given them some kibble and perhaps a copy of “Lady and The Tramp” for their reward.

Knowing that a second Hellboy movie is in the works and will be released next year about this time, we discovered this limited edition vinyl Qee. Standing at 8-inches, Mike Mignola’s creation has flexible arms and legs for breaking up rubber bricks with his right hand. If that isn’t enough action, he also has his signature gun implanted on his left one. With only 1,500 available, this is truly only for fans of the comic/movie at $79.99. We have more news on the HD DVD/Blu-ray battlefield. Yesterday, Viacom’s Paramount and DreamWorks Animation announced that they will be releasing their DVDs exclusively on HD DVD. They feel that the format has better quality, lower manufacturing costs, and less expensive players available. Included in the first batch of releases will be “Blades of Glory” on August 28, “Transformers,” and “Shrek the Third.” The agreement includes other movies distributed by Paramount including DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies, and MTV Films, the exception being Spielberg films as they are not exclusive to either format.

Simpsons Become Collectors’ Footware
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Smart Home, Movies,
When will Simpsonmania end? Every other commercial, Fox promo, and site has at least one ka-ching for Matt Groening and crew. We are pleased that in between the Squishees and Krusty battling the BK mascot, we found these anti-Simpson shoes. The Limited Edition Krusty the Demon Vans seem to be so popular that they are only available on eBay, from prices of $127.00 to upwards of $350.00. We did find one pair of Homer in Shattered Glass shoes by the same designer Tony Muñoz for $22.50, unless someone has already snatched them up to resell on eBay for a higher price, too.
