Unboxing The XShot
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Accessories, Smartphones, Misc. Tech, Movies, Product Reviews, Videos,
We just received an XShot, the cool little extension device that you attach to your still or video cam that allows you long and/or panoramic shots without the aid of an extra person. Its stainless steel shaft is indeed lightweight and extends 37-inches. The screw is a standard one used on tripods and it has the tilt capability of 180º. The company claims that it will fit in your pocket when closed (9-inches,) but those would have to be some pretty big jeans to accommodate it. It does, however, have a nice lanyard for carrying and a very comfortable rubber grip. Full review and demo after the jump.

Universal Remote Control has already won CES awards for its MX-810 and MX-980s. Each MX-810 is usable for one room. It features RF accessibility so that you don’t have to worry about aiming it, a color LCD, and personalized programming. It will work up to 100 feet away, even for components that are hidden, and can be programmed with any Windows compatible program. URC’s MX-980 takes care of customizing entire home theaters and A/V systems. It is definitely built for homes or offices that have large or more than one system. Both remotes will be featured at the CES in January and come with prices of $399.00 and $599.00 respectively.

What do you get when you cross Star Wars and one of our fave toys? It’s the Darth Vader Transformer, of course. At a height of 11-inches, he will wield his lightsaber and blaster with sounds and lighting. When you want him to change tactics, turn him into a Death Star. Although he will be smaller (about 6 3/4-inches,) he will launch projectiles at anything not belonging to the Dark Side. This baddie/battle station needs 3 AA batteries (included) and is available with 3 Storm Troopers and TIE Fighter mini-vehicles for $49.95.
(Thanks, Jennifer)

Kmart Drops Blu-ray Players
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, Movies, Portable Audio / Video, Video Games,
As part of the next chapter of the Disc War, we find Kmart has decided to drop Blu-ray players from its shelves, undoubtedly because of their higher prices. HD-DVDs will continue to be offered at $200.00 or less during the holiday season. For example, we found this 7-inch Toshiba SDP1750 Portable Player which carries a price of $139.99. Kmart will still sell the Playstation 3, which includes a Blu-ray player. It remains to be seen if price continues to be the guiding factor in the battle between the two technologies.

I’m ready for my close up, Mr.DeMille. After auditioning on MySpace, ten users have been selected to be part of “Faintheart,” a new romantic comedy that will be released next summer. The social networkers selected the actors as well as director Vito Rocco, after half a million viewed his submitted short. If you missed becoming part of the cast, you can still get in on the action and contribute to the script. The completed film should be released in the real world by next summer.

So last spring we told you about the Star Wars postage stamps, which could only be purchased as a multi-stamp set. However, you could vote for your favorite character to receive a stamp of his/her/its own. The winner? Yoda! The sage, semi-cuddly Jedi Master’s stamp has been released. Although his pose suggests complete disdain for the honor, we bet deep down he’s quite humbled.

Hurry To Wally World for Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player at $98.87
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Home Entertainment, Hot Deals, Movies,
Wal-Mart has decided to sell the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player at a discounted price of $98.87 to get the holiday shopping season started early. So much for the second gen Panasonic’s Bluray DMP. Slated for today only, if you are reading this, you are probably too late unless you are on the west coast and the time is before noon. They are also offering Acer laptops for $348.00 and Sanyo 50-inch Plasma HDTVs for $998.00.
We poked around to find what was going on at the other stores, where the player is still being offered for $299.99. We did find a GPX Player at a sale price of $25.00 at Kmart. We know someone who bought one of these and although it is slow, it works. Now that’s a bargain.
