moneybagPolice in Norfolk, UK were puzzled when a boy who ordered a Playstation 2 for £95 (~$195.00) from eBay received EU 65,400 (~$90,353.00) instead. They have decided to hold on to the parcel under their Proceeds of Crime Act while they investigate. eBay has promised to cooperate in finding the money’s owner. Theoretically, the child and his parents can get back the funds under the Police Property Act if nobody else claims it. If they manage to do that, they can probably buy a PS3.

Shopper logoHere’s your chance to make some actual money blogging. The German-based site Shopper has launched an English beta version, which is used to create product reviews and recommendations. You can also promote your writing with the widget Adget on MySpace and watch the pennies

dollars roll in to your PayPal account when you revenue share with the site. Bookmark others’ reviews and earn cash by recommending them. This is also a fine place to look for folks who try before you buy. We have noted many of these sites of late, but the bad news is that it will probably take a lot more time to earn those few pennies than you would like to spend.

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsMommy, make them stop! We are frankly tired of hearing about whether or not actual facts have been leaked about “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Scholastic Corporation is reportedly suing book distributer Levy Home Entertainment and DeepDiscount.com for leaking information, pictures, and advanced copies before the book’s American debut at 12:01 a.m. (0401 GMT) on Saturday. Most of us realize that negative publicity can often be just as beneficial as positive PR and suspect that this is no exception. We rate it right up there with the whereabouts of Paris Hilton at any given moment.

Blackle

In January, Mark Ontkush wrote a blog that commented that using a black version of Google would save about 3000 megawatts a year, since a white page uses 74 watts and a black one only 59. Toby Heap thought Mark’s idea was such a good one that Blackle was created. The site reports that just since its Febuary release, 95,918.333 watt hours have been saved. You know that Gear Live is trying to help the world become a greener place, so we thought we would give it a try and found that the darkened screen not only worked fine, it had a nice Zen effect. Everybody say “O-h-h-h-m-m-m.”

(Thanks, Toby)

Sony GC-1

It had to happen. It seems that when Sony hears of an idea, in this case a small and inexpensive still/video camera designed to upload on the Internet like Flipvideo, they develop one, too. The Net Sharing GC-1 is only 1 3/16 x 4 1/8 x 2 1/4-inches, and weighs only about 5 ounces. It takes 5-megapixel still photos and shoots video in MPEG-4 with your choice of QVGA/15 fps or VGA/ 30fps and can hold up to 5 hours of footage with a 2 GB Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo media card (for an additional $59.99.)

With a built-in flash, a 4x digital zoom, and a 2.4 inch color LCD screen, the GC-1 has around a rechargeable 90 minute battery life span and will be arriving in September for ~$200.00 in retail stores or you can preorder now at Sony Style. We suspect that other companies will also be coming out with their own versions of inexpensive cams so that everyone can become part of the YouTube Generation.

Online Video GamersThe Chinese, under a new ruling that took effect Monday, have decided to limit the hours that teens can play online games. The user must enter their ID card number and after three hours (based on the length it takes to play the strategy game “Go”) the computer prompt reads “do suitable physical exercise.” If they continue, the software slashes their points in half, and after 5 hours, are wiped entirely.

Companies such as The9, which runs the game WOW, says that most of the 3.5 million subscribers in China are adults and doesnt think that the ruling will effect their business. Designed to cutback on video game addicts, some experts say that savvy teens can beat the system by using false identities. Isn’t it great to be on this side of the planet?

IMVU

IMVU chat is a cross between Second Life and MySpace. It combines the ability of an ordinary IM with a customizeable 3D avatar that speaks through cartoon bubbles and can be modified with clothing, furniture, and backgrounds. Relying on member developed content, IMVU users can order/sell more of these items via virtual currency earned, making it seem more of a business than a pleasure to us.

Although the service has been around for a couple of years, IMVU now claims that its recently released beta 3D messenger already has over a million subscribers. They are hoping to expand to include games, access on cell phones, and incorporating celebrities’ and designer clothing. We wonder if we can get the Lindsey Lohan alchohol-detecting ankle bracelet to go with our Goth outfits.
