Attention, all Mr. and Ms. Pacman freaks. If you can remember playing the original table style arcade game at your local Pizza Hut, then you may want to get in on the action and bid on this one, which is being offered on eBay. Pacman and Galaga also come with the machine. Choose from black or red oak, as both feature original Atari reunion PCBs. They also have new two bit underlay and overlay graphics. The starting bid is $1,500.00 and the auction will close November 3. By the way, if you already own one of these classics and are tired of hearing it chirp at all hours, Arcade Classics also buys old machines.

Jiibe is a kinder job match service. Based on user-generated content, companies are encouraged to create profiles. Included is a personality quiz that compares an ideal situation with an actual one. If you are seeking employment, Jiibe offers the service in reverse, by comparing your actual profile with your ideal situation. Results are offered by name, industry, size and compatibility scale, as well a description the site makes based on other employees’ quizzes.
There is also a bulletin board for users to ask and answer questions, and the service will recommend similar companies in case you like shopping around for your livelihood. Because the service is limited to its own subscribers, it may be smaller than a Monster, but seeing that it is much more personal, it may be worth the wait.

Want to trace the missing limbs on your family tree? GeneTree, launched this week in beta, offers DNA Test Kits so you can do just that. It has access to records from the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation which holds over 100,000 samples worldwide. After its research, the company claims to have a database of 6 million people. For a fee starting at $99.00, GeneTree will send you some mouthwash to swirl, spit, and send back. You can then wait for the rich relatives to claim you on your profile page.
The newly established Ancestry also offers those services, and is building its database from scratch. They have taken profiles of 50,000 individuals and hope to see results in about 6 months. You can then compare your DNA results with others through the site. With a variety of tests available, the service’s cheek swab will set you back at a price beginning at $149.00.
While DNA testing will not tell you everything you need to know, it may lead to information such as names and addresses of those who are related to you. At least you will know if you absolutely have to attend the next family reunion.

In Brief: Gmail to get IMAP support

Posted by Sparky Categories: Google, Internet, Misc. Tech, Software,
Gmail, Google‘s popular web based email solution is likely about to get IMAP features - a welcome addition for email power-users. It appears that some users are seeing options to IMAP-enable their account in the settings page. This will help Google’s service compete with Yahoo Mail which has offered IMAP access for some time now.
We don’t yet have the option on our accounts here at Gear Live, but we definitely look forward to trying it out. If your account has the new option, be a pal and leave a comment to let the world know what you think.

Reach Out and Touch Yourself

Meet one of the first interactive mixed reality humanoid robots. Put on a special HMD (head-mounted display) and U-Tsu-Shi-O-Mi appears as an animated character that you can literally touch. The 3D avatar is made with skin that acts as a green screen and as users adjust their head angle and position, so does the robot. Created by Michihiko Shoji, the plans are for U-Tsu-Shi-O-Mi to enhance existing virtual reality and its first application will probably be in arcades, with household usage to come later. This brings on a whole new meaning of self-communication, doesn’t it?

YouTube Unveils Copyright Protection Plan

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Google, Home Entertainment, Internet, Movies, Music,
YouTube has finally released the means to automatically remove copyrighted clips. Although it has been eliminating most of those videos per request, the site is hoping that this will have a more positive impact on complaints such as Viacom’s suit against them. Working with its parent Google, the technology also allows companies to sell ads on their material if they will allow them to remain on YouTube. Unfortunately, the method of copyright protection requires copies of the videos that need protecting to be given to YouTube for comparison. This certainly doesn’t appear to be the solution that the studios desire and we suspect that YouTube will have to go back to the drawing board on this one.
