If you have not yet heard of Jefferson Han, you will be amazed at his new technology and how far he and his company, Perceptive Pixel, have come in the last six months. His touch display redefines the way commands are sent to a computer. Using movement and pressure, he conveys information to the brain beneath the display. Last month he reportedly sent his first screen to one of the military branches, and he is already offering consulting services. Future applications include interactive displays built into walls and shopping malls. For now, just marvel at the things to come.

MooninitesThe quick thinking Time Warner Cartoon Network is making headlines again. They will be offering ring tones for cell phones in the voices of their cartoon characters. Their CallToons service will also be available to alert you to new voice mails or low-battery alerts. The Network has filed for a patent on the technology as they claim they are the first to respond to the idea. We just can’t wait to not only see the Mooninites in action, but also to hear them with such witticisms as, “Try as you like Carl, but you cannot heat up our moon juices.”

Victoria's Secret StoreIf you live in New York, LA, or Detroit, you are at the highest risk of identity loss. This report, issued today by ID Analytics, also states that Wyoming, Vermont, and Montana are at the bottom of the list. Complaints of this nature, which include bank, credit card, phone, and utilities fraud, continue to be reported to the FTC and accounted for 36% of the over 670,000 complaints in 2006. Our hearts go out to one of our Metro Detroit internet friends who told us that just last week, someone stole his identity, and had him/herself one hell of a $400.00 shopping spree online at Victoria’s Secret.

StikkitStikkit has turned the Post-it note up a notch by organizing your daily details. Their “little yellow notes that think” recognize names, email addys, and other important notations then organizes and categorizes them for you automatically. Use Stikkit for gathering phone numbers, addresses, and important dates, or plan a meeting and invite others online to read your ideas. If that isn’t enough, you can even share them with buds that don’t have their own Stikkit accounts. Although we applaud the idea of this free service, we wonder how unfriendly our computer desk would seem if it was actually Post-it free.

Acoustic Energy WiFi Internet RadioThe advantages of internet radio over FM (and arguably satellite radio) are plenty: thousands of diverse stations, better sound, less ads and even fewer annoying DJ’s. The downside? A computer was always required to access this wonderful medium. Coming to the rescue is the Acoustic Energy WiFi Internet Radio, a standalone device that’s not only pre-loaded with over 5000 internet radio stations, but doesn’t need a computer…only an available WiFi connection. Translation? No monthly subscriber fees. You can program stations that aren’t included with the radio, and it can even pick up English-speaking stations in foreign countries. Plus, you can hook it up to your network to play your music files. Too bad the price tag is a wince-inducing $300 USD. But if you’re a satellite subscriber, you may want to break out your calculator and crunch some numbers…

MySpace logoMySpace has announced that as of today, it is providing free indexing to content producers who want to block users from uploading their copywritten videos. They will do the filtering by utilizing technology called Motional Media from Audio Magic, acoustic fingerprinting invented by David Stebbings. MySpace has already been doing this on a limited basis for the past year by blocking users from uploading audio or video files not authorized by the Universal Music Group.  It remains to be seen if this will finally shame Google and YouTube into taking up that same gauntlet.

MoodJamIan Li and a team of other Carnegie Mellon University Computer Science students have created MoodJam, a means of using your computer for self-reflection by multi-colored bands and words. Because more than 2,000 others wanted to play with the program, they realized that it could be utilized in another way.
This “visual diary”  keeps a record of your moods as often as your like, for as long as you like. You learn about your personal mood trends, then share them with others. The program can be placed on one’s home page or found on the MoodJam website, which was launched last November.
