Description Looks like Yahoo! is finally conceding that Google is leading the pack. When Gmail first launched, Yahoo! bumped their free email inbox size from 4 MB to 250 MB. Now that Gmail has gotten more mainstream, even showing signs of going public soon, Yahoo! felt it was time to act. In April they will upgrade all free email accounts, giving them 1 GB of storage space. Yahoo! will also be adding some improvements to their desktop search tool, allowing users to search previous Yahoo! Messenger chats as well as email address books.

(Thanks falcoboy!)

404 Error Page Fun

Posted by Oscar M. Cantu Categories: Internet,

404 ErrorWe all hate to see 404 errors appear in our browser when we really expect to see some meaningful content. What can webmasters do to avoid upsetting their users? Give them something to do when a page cannot be found! Homokaasu.org aims to do just that with their breakout flash mini game that loads up when a 404 error is generated. Nice way to spend a couple minutes, until you remember what you were actually doing. Homestarrunner.com is another website that aims to bring a smile to an otherwise unhappy visitor with a custom 404 page. For this one, you will need for it to load and have your speakers on to enjoy it. Feel free to drop links to others that you find in the comments.

FlickrFlickr, the massively popular online photo sharing community, was acquired by Yahoo! on March 20th. Expect to see a vast addition of features starting with an increase storage space, and the ability to log into the site using a Yahoo! ID. According to the flickr blog, pro account owners will get a special treat as a thank you for paying for the service. Prices are also expected to drop in the months to come. We look forward to seeing what Yahoo! can do with this popular community we all have grown to love.

DescriptionLooks like the Yahoo! official from the company’s Australian offices was incorrect when they said that Yahoo! plans to ensure that all current and future services would be checked for full Firefox compatibility. Someone from the US office overruled that claim, saying that Firefox is still a relatively new technology, and some services just flat out might not work for the browser. Oh well.

Yahoo FirefoxYahoo! has made it known that they are going to ensure that all of their web products and services will be fully compatible with the Firefox browser. In fact, they will not release any new services until they are tested and confirmed to work on both Internet Explorer and Firefox browser platforms. This is great news, as many of Yahoo’s features were previously only available to those running IE. This bit of news is just more proof that Firefox has  what it takes. Hey, Microsoft - Internet Explorer 7 better be one hell of a piece of work.

EDIT: Looks like Yahoo! mispoke on this one.

Okay, now it’s pretty obvious that Google enjoys OS X as much as the rest of us. According to Google’s Blog, the project started as a late-night project in order to learn Javascript & DHTML. The result is a Mac OS X inspired version of Google - Google X. At this time the link to the Google Labs version is not working, however, we were able to find a mirror thanks to Tech info Blog. Check it out here.

MSN AdCenter At the Strategic Account Summit, Microsoft’s answer to Google AdWords was introduced – MSN adCenter. This prototype is designed to help advertisers generate more revenue with the ability to connect to the desired audience throughout the MSN network. The new technology will provide advertisers in depth audience details such as geographic location, gender, age group, lifestyle segment and time of day – thus being able to generate more clicks. Microsoft did not provide many details on how the technology is able to obtain such statistics. Seems that as advertising technology is improved, our privacy seems to diminish as well.
