Finally Some Comfort With The Sonic Chair

We finally found a chair that looks like it came out of a sci-fi movie, yet may in fact be comfortable. The Sonic Chair doesn’t envelop you in its clutches, it simply surrounds you with suede microfibers and a mesh backrest with body-focused sound generators. The LEDs feature time, date, and day of the week and have auto-light activation possible every fifteen minutes between 6 p.m. and midnight to remind you that it is way past your bedtime. The timepieces have a stainless steel band and run on two lithium batteries. Getting your own piece of the “Dark Side” will cost you 21,900 ($180.62) and ¥15,900 ($131.13) respectively.

USB Doorbell Makes “Ding-Dong” Obsolete

The USB Doorbell replaces your current one and allows you to play sound effects, audio clips, and WAVS or MP3s. Plug it into your computer to load, then attach it to your existing wiring if it is low (4 to 24) voltage. It has three different volume settings, a mounting loop, needs three AA batteries (not included,) and carries an MSRP of $99.99 at ThinkGeek. We were thinking that we would equip ours with Lurch asking “You Rang?” or Clint Eastwood saying “Make My Day, Punk!” The possibilities seem endless.
And by the way, we find it sort of fascinating that YouTube is becoming an outlet for commercials. This makes for good product demos and certainly helps us here at Gear Live, but we wonder how soon the site will be saturated with ads, and if the site will eventually be charging for that benefit.

Was This Nuclear Generator a Genuine Household Product?

It’s tough to distinguish if this 80’s print ad actually appeared touting the benefits of the Household Nuclear Generator. Although there is no exact date on the piece, it’s difficult to read whether this was created as a viable product or simply a cruel joke after Chernobyl. Claiming to be user-friendly even by children, it says it is a “gentle source of unlimited energy for the home” that can save you up to 80% of your electric bill with its use. We shudder at the concept anyway, and will pass on this one, thank you very much.

Step On the Carpet Alarm Clock

With only a grabbed image off a site, it took us more than a week to track down this Carpet Alarm Clock with LED, mainly because we weren’t sure what to call it. It turned out to be merely a prototype designed by Sofie Collin and Gustav Lanberg, but it still merits a look-see. No snooze on this one, you have to get out of bed and actually step on it to turn the gadget off. We’re not sure if it would have the same effect of a shower in the a.m., but we are thinking that our standing on a scale is certainly the best way to make us aware of a new day. Perhaps in the future the two concepts could be combined. That way, you can step on its fuzziness, find that you’re late for work, then have it tell you that you had one too many french fries last night.
