denon turntableStill rocking the vinyls? Is your iPod lacking in content because of it? Denon has the hookup for you. The DP-200USB turntable doesn’t just spin your records, but also rips them to the integrated USB drive. The accompanying software (this one is XP/Vista only for now, unfortunately) features Auto Track Divide, which recognizes silence between songs and will insert a new track tab for each track, and Audio Waveform Recognition, which will analyze a track’s first 15 seconds and search Gracenote for you. Stylistically, this unit looks like something straight out of my own rec room at my parents’ house. It’s available for $250.

OnlineFamilyIt’s a scary Internet world for kids, but Symantec has generously offered Norton OnlineFamily to keep tabs on them. The software streamlines data from all your computers and can flag trouble sites. It shows where your kids are going and lets you search through their IMs, Facebook and MySpace profiles, including checking what information they are putting out there. They will call it Big Brother, but isn’t it better to be safe than sorry? A $60.00 value, the software is Free until Jan.10, 2010.

After watching Niels Diffrient, creator of the Freedom Chair, talk about how he approached chair design from a whole new perspective, we had to share it. The talk was given in 2002 at TED, so it isn’t new by any means, but it’s very cool to hear the details of how Niels came to completely rethink the office chair, using the human body as his fundamental data set.

252º Living Area

With the mortgage crisis resulting in so many homeless, would that this design by Stephanie Bellanger, Amaury Watine, François Gustin and David Dethoor be duplicated by the dozens. The 252º Living Area is a trailer that converts into a living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and office. A sliding screen covers the mobile mini-house to keep nasty insects and small creatures out. It would certainly be simple to keep moving should one get shut out of a park area, parking lot or back street.
