Juke TowerThe Juke Tower is Japan’s answer to music in your shower without electrocution. The waterproof gadget features a downward-facing 360º speaker, can hold up to 2 GB of your MP3s for playback, and supports 8 to 320kbps. At a size of 78 x 183 mm and a weight of 300 g, the Tower uses 3 AA batteries that will hold their charge for up to 12 hours. It will be available at the end of the month for 10,500 Yen (~$88.00.) We can now sing to our hearts content while showering, but it is still going to sound like a limp karaoke performance.

VerroiRobot, creator of the Roomba, has decided to tackle the issue of getting our swimming pools clean and sparkling fresh in only 60 to 90 minutes, as opposed to the 4 to 6 hours cleaners normally take. The 4-wheeled Verro 300 sprays jets of water to clean cement pools, while the 600 works on a track for cleaning tile, vinyl, and fiberglass.

Designed by Aqua Products Group, the iRobit offerings are two next-generation models of the Aquabot.  The Verro 300 retails for $799.99 while the 600 will set you back $1,199.99. Contact iRobot to take advantage of their 30-day free trial. We were thinking that we would give the Verro a crack at our shower, which could always use a super-scrubbing.

Memo Motion SensorIf you are the type that always plasters Post-its all over your house and then forgets about them, the Memo Motion Sensor has been designed for you. When you enter a room, it immediately starts playing back a pre-recorded 10 second message. With dimensions of 7.9 x 4.7 x 10 cm, it comes in its own tray, runs on 4 AA batteries (not included,) and carries a MSRP of 19,90 € (~$27.00.) There’s only one problem. If that message is to remind you to feed your cat, and the feline beats you into the room, will she/he know enough to open the Fancy Feast?

kids on computersThe issue of online predators continues to make waves in the Internet community. This time, Connecticut’s Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has come up with a bill that forces social networking sites such as MySpace, Friendster, and Facebook to verify the age of every user and then get permission from the parents of all of those who are under 18.
Many sites are already stepping up security measures. For example, MySpace already screens for sex offenders and checks for offensive material. But with over 160 million subscribers it’s often difficult to catch all the bad guys. Kids being as web savvy as they are today can often circumvent those safeguards. We still believe that ultimately parents must adjust the thinking of their children and teach them that it is truly a scary world out there, even online.

Country Crock logoThere are plenty of sites where you can blog for the fun of it. You may even find one that will pay you to write. This site will feed the homeless if you just share a story. For every tale you write for “Spread the Sharing,” they will donate a meal to a needy family through America’s Second Harvest, a volunteer-only organization that serves food and soup kitchens. At present, 1,667 meals have been donated from the recently started site that is being sponsored by Shedd’s Country Crock. Maybe you can be #1,668.

Dumb Tape MeasureIf you are the type who runs out and buys every “For Dummies” book you can get your hands on, our buds at Stupid have just the tool for you. On the outside it looks just like every other tape measure (well, almost,) but pull the tape out and it will literally measure distance in feet. Made of metal, the Dummy product features a locking mechanism and will set you back $5.99. We’re curious about one thing. If you are using this tool, why are you trying to construct something in the first place?

MistyNo clever gadget here, folks, but having recently lost our own dog to liver malfunction, it makes us question why such supposedly reliable and technologically up-to-date companies as Iams and Science Diet may be responsible for the lives of too many pets worldwide. These products are often recommended by vets, and if you can’t rely on them, what can you do?

Our suggestion is, first of all, to halt the consuming of either wet or dry recalled products in question, which now includes Del Monte (manufacturers of Gravy Train and jerky treats,) Purina’s Alpo, and Hill. Switch your pet’s diet to something organic and made locally or make your own kibble. Finally, if you even suspect your best friend is exhibiting symptoms of liver damage, call your local veterinary facility to see if she/he should be tested.

Hooded Toaster

Consider no longer having to deal with excess crumbs, burnt Pop-Tarts, partially-frozen waffles, or oversized bagels stuck in your toaster. Alas, it is still only a dream. Designed by Turkey’s Atil Kizilbayir, this ingenious device won the recent 2007 Immib Product Design competition. Put your bread in it at one end and a few seconds later the carriage pops not up, but out of the hooded toaster. Props to Atil, and here’s hoping that his concept will become reality in the near future.
