Terra Cotta Oven

If you still haven’t gotten that new barbecue for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, how about a European wood-fired oven? Fill it with hard or fruit wood and heat will build slowly in its 22-inch internal chamber, which allows even cooking throughout its outer shell. Handmade in Portugal, the oven is 25-inches tall, (59-inches with stand,) and weighs a storm defying 350 lbs.

At a base cost of $2,000, if you opt for the White Glove Service, they will not only assemble the Terra Cotta Oven for you at your place, they won’t charge you for shipping and handling. Although the company claims that it even makes great pizza, we think we should initiate its use with a meal of Tandoori chicken.

Automatic Pet FeederSee Spot eat all by himself. This automatic pet feeder contains 3 compartments for food which are programmable for 8, 12, or 24 hour interval openings. With a 355mm base and a 275mm tray diameter, it dismantles for easy cleaning, has a LED low-power indicator, and runs on 4 C batteries (not included.) You can also make a 20 second recording of your voice for its speaker to call your pet, but we are thinking that knowing the way dogs’ minds work, it might be more useful to record our cat chowing down on his kibble. Available at Wild Electronics, it carries a MSRP of $31.95.

Flying Alarm ClockThis has to be a better alternative to a cold shower in the a.m. We managed to find another retro gadget, but this one actually does more than pop. Set the Flying Alarm Clock just like any other, but be prepared really awaken tomorrow morning. When the alarm chimes, the propeller takes flight. The noise continues until you find the wretched toy, which could be anywhere in your bedroom, and return it to its launch pad. The Flying Alarm Clock is available from our buds at stupid for only $21.99.

(Thanks, Bob)

Magic RingtoneSo we told you about Horntones, which allows you to change your car’s horn to any sound or song in MP3 format. Sounds fun but potentially dangerous and chaotic. Here’s something similar but a lot safer: a device called Magic Ringtone allows you to change your home phone’s ring to that of any MP3 sound. Just transfer the file from your PC to the device via USB, then attach your landline phone. Now instead of an generic ring, you can choose a babbling brook or a babbling Britney to alert you of incoming calls. We especially love the low cost of $12 USD, but apparently so does everyone else, as the Magic Ringtone is currently sold out. Stay tuned…

iCarta iPod Toilet Paper DockWe have another entry in the sometimes wacky world of iPod docks and holders. They’ve invaded our bedrooms, closets, cubicles, backyards...and now the bathroom. Yes, we’re talking about the iCarta Toilet Paper Holder, which holds, charges and plays your iPod while you do your thing. The dock is moisture-resistant, but somehow we don’t think the iPod is, so be careful if taking a hot shower. The iCarta has four stereo speakers, includes an AC adaptor, measures 8x4x5”, and can be used with all iPods with dock connectors. Available for $70 USD, iPod and toilet paper not included.
