Brush and RinseBrush and Rinse 2

The Brush and Rinse Toothbrush on the left features a concave back to create a mini-water fountain to your mouth so that no one will catch you slurping out of the faucet. Although you can purchase one for only $3.00, we understand that there are only 27 original prototypes in existence and that they are available for $1,750.00 each. We took our average toothbrush and attached a measuring spoon to the back with a twist-tie and it worked just fine. We suppose we could let it go for a mere $1,000.00, since our version is a one-of-a-kind and very slightly used.

Battle Shark

The Swimways Rainbow Reef Battle Shark looks rather ominous as it makes its way around the water, perfectly balanced, with just a fin sticking out on top. The 14 x 7-inch creature needs 2 AA batteries (not included) and comes in chum red, life-jacket yellow, or great white grey for $24.95 apiece at Vat 19, where their videos are as creative as their products. Preorder if you want one from the next batch when it comes back in stock within the next week or thereabouts. We admit that we don’t have our own pool, but think it might be worth buying just to see how the neighbors react when we put it in theirs.

Garage Sale ApplicationNo sooner have we updated you about the latest additions to Facebook than we find that Buy.com has opened up a Garage Sale on the social networking site. The application allows users to buy and sell items on their profile page. The site will process the sales and reimburse sellers via PayPal or check minus a flat 5% commission for items sold, as opposed to eBay’s listing and final transaction fee.

Chief Executive Neel Grover feels that Garage Sale encourages users to spend more time looking at and connecting to other profiles, which makes any deal between them more personal. While there is no real haggling ability as yet on the FB beta site, people can email bids to each other. Anyone want to buy some swampland in Florida?

Plasma and Optic NightlightsIf you have always wanted to own one of those plasma lamps or optic displays that are featured at Spencer’s Gifts right next to the lava lamps, they are now available in a nightlight versions. The Plasma Light works just like the original globe created by Nikola Tesla back in the eighties. Not quite as fun to play with as the full size counterparts, for the mini-price of $12.00 each we think it’s just a groovy way to spend some time in the dark.

TondonTondon has been “hired” by a 14 floor Tokyo apartment complex as its maintenance man. Built by Subaru (Fuji Heavy Industries) and Sumitomo, the bot uses an optical communication system to run the building’s elevators and has been designed to sweep, clean, and scrub dirty surfaces both indoors and outside. The next generation of the RFS1 robot, he is also waterproof and features a design to match the Bali-themed decor. Tondon, named after a legenday Balinese snake god, features 4 video cameras and a hard disk so that humans can keep an eye on the little guy while he is also being utilized for surveillance. We call any rent-a-cop who can clean up at the same time deserves Japan’s 2006 Robot of the Year Award bestowed upon him.

Coldwell Real, Virtual Houses

Real estate company Coldwell Banker has brought house selling to the virtual zone by creating a mock-up of a real house on the online gaming site Second Life. If you are interested, your avatar can meet their avatar, tour the $3 million house, make a bid, negotiate and then do lunch. You only have to meet to sign the papers and seal the deal. The NAR (National Association of Realtors) claims that 81% of recent home buyers used the Internet to buy their homes. We suspect it will be the shape of things to come, although we hope that we don’t see Golden Arches in the near future.

Somenath MitraResearchers at the NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology) have created a polymer-based paint that can be applied to plastic sheeting to make a solar cell for what they claim will be a fraction of the price. The cell developed uses a carbon nanotubes complex which is estimated to be 50,000 times smaller than a human hair and is considered a better conductor than copper. Lead researcher Somenath Mitra says that the panels could be made on inkjet printers in the future, leading us to believe that possibilities of our house and car becoming self-sustaining solar powered machines is not so very far away.

Possessed BooksThese ancient-looking tomes may look like they are merely gathering dust on your bookshelf, but once someone walks by them, the middle one slides out towards its victim and emits eerie sounds. Lifelike at a size of 8 x 8 x 6.5-inches, you can scare your buds with these Possessed Books for $24.95. We wanted to know why they decided to include two copies of Silas Marner, but since we remember it being required reading in school, we figure that no one will mess with either of them before the gadget is triggered.
