CapsuliThe Capsuli is an LED Emergency Kit designed by Ukseop Jeong and Hanna Son. The capsules are palmsize and emit light with a simple twist. They are housed on a pad containing solar cells, so there is no worry about running out of batteries in the middle of a hurricane. Only a prototype, we hope that this will eventually become a staple of home and car first aid kits, since we never seem able to keep flashlights working when we really need them.

Snore Stopping PillowDaryoush Bazargani snores. How convenient that he just happens to be a computer science professor at the University of Rostock in Germany. He has come up with a special pillow and attached it to a computer on his nightstand that analyzes the noise. The computer then creates or takes away pockets of air within the pillow. The result that it eases nasal airflow to minimize snoring. Still in the prototype stage, we are up for any solution that results in less noise pollution when we are trying to crash.

iRobot LoojiRobot is at it again. This time, the Roomba folks have come up with the Looj. Designed for the single task of gutter cleaning, the bot works with standard K-style vinyl, aluminum, copper, or other metal. The company claims that it cleans a 60 ft. section in about ten minutes. The basic model 120 will set you back $99.99 from iRobot, with two other models available with optional holster and/or extra battery pack. We suspect that the name came from the luge, the Olympic sled, but wouldn’t take any bets on it until we see our neighborhood squirrels facing off in a Gutter Looj competition.

Wikipedia logoIt seems that Wikipedia is finally getting wise to those who would slant articles. The Vatican and Disney were sited as examples of organizations who did just that. “Ordinary” users will no longer be able to edit for instant changes, but instead will be checked out by “trusted editors,” those who “have proven their commitment to Wikipedia by posting 30 reliable changes within 30 days.”

Wait, there’s more. Apparently the CIA has found altered information on former presidents such as Nixon and Reagan. The changes will begin in the German version which supposedly has a higher accuracy rating, and will move on from there.

LED ChessFor those of you that play chess into the wee hours of the morning, Dutch designer Daan Van Tuldur has created a set that is lit by LEDs that are located in the 4 corners of the board. Black and white are replaced by matte and transparent squares, and all the pieces basically have the same shape. Besides this prototype, Van Tuldur has worked on many designs, including HotSpots, arcade-size retro systems geared for the next generation of Atari gamers.

Mickey and PhoneDisney Mobile has decided to end its branded cell phone service by the end of this year. They claim that although parents liked the concept, large retailers were hesitant to feature them in their stores. No further phones will be available for sale now but the company promises to service the handsets until December. In the future, Disney will be offering its services, such as its tracking capability, to other mobile phone carriers.

This is the second time that Disney has overstreched with bad results, the first being the dropping of their ESPN-branded cell phone service about a year ago. In fact we wondered then whether this move would cover their losses. Disney Mobile will be handing out reimbursements for those with the units as well as accessories, so contact their site if you have questions or want to transfer your number.
