Hand Grenade ClockThis week, a hand grenade made its way to the Canadian border. Another one, which turned out to be a toy, was discovered at the McNamara Terminal at Detroit’s Metro Airport. Now you can join the group with the Hand Grenade Alarm Clock. Made of PVC, this clock has to be thrown to turn itself off. This is a perfect gift for those who want to vent their anger when disturbed first thing in the a.m. It’s available at CScout for $39.00.

Dewy's AdventureWhat do you do to attract attention by kids that are immersed in video games and no longer watch as much TV? If you are Nestle, you produce mini-bottles of water called Aquapod just for them. Then you set up a site that they can play on, run a contest designing empty bottles, and finally, don’t forget the tie-in to Wiis with Konami’s environmentally friendly Dewy’s Adventure.  At least their promotional contest, which runs through November 1, has some nice prizes such as a 6-night trip to Costa Rica or a Wii with the game included. We remember when Nestle’s Quick simply made the very best….chocolate.

Cozy LegsThat nice delay with higher temperatures has stopped the onset of evil winter so far, but it is coming nonetheless. Cozy Legs is a radiant heating panel that will help keep you warm when the temperature drops. Mount it on a cubicle wall, under your desk, or on an optional stand. The beige heater, at a size 1 x 22 x 16-inches, is available for $99.99 and the stand will set you back an additional $19.99. We think it would be a useful alternative to warming our legs by keeping them on our computer, like we did last year.

SwamiWe couldn’t leave the Neiman Marcus Catalogue without including one more item that we found especially intriguing. The Swami Conversational Robot knows who you are individually, carries on conversations, develops a rapport with you, and answers questions. He has micro-camera eyes, more than 30 robotic micro motors and runs off an (included!) PC laptop. This bot makes Zoltar look like child’s play, but then he is available for about 10 times the price at $75,000.00.

Barfing Pumpkin

We came across this site that features some of the most cleverly created pumpkins we have seen. Tom Nardone is more of an artist than a carver and we just thought we would share some of his special veggies. Extreme Pumpkins also features how-to advice, fire, light and pyrotechnics, design strategy, preservation, and what tools to use when carving. Tom’s site holds a yearly Halloween contest for other creative carvers, so feel free to send them a pic of your own jack-o-lantern this year.

(Thanks, Joyce)

Meet Brian, whose brain contains The Britannica Concise Encyclopedia, an English dictionary, and a world history timeline. He utilizes voice recognition or keyboard to respond, and can store phone numbers and dial via a phone jack, ask questions, and tell some really corny jokes. Brian contains an MP3 player jack, an integrated speaker, a digital clock, a calendar, and has thousands of bits of trivia stored inside his glowing, color-changing brain. At a size of 13.75 x 11.75 x 10-inches, the Brain is powered by three AAA batteries (not included,) includes a free 3-month subscription to Britannica On Line, and will be ready to play “Jeopardy” with you around October 19 for $119.95.

MC ToothbrushFile this one under anything to make a buck. We can handle a Bono iPod, or an Armani cell phone, but a Miley Cyrus Toothbrush? The harder you brush, the louder it “sings” for up to a total of 2 minutes of “Pumpin’ Up the Party.” We’re not sure we can deal with that much of the tween idol at one time, but thank goodness after you invest in the brush for $9.99, both the brush head and batteries are non-replaceable. Ashley Tisdale and Hilary Duff models are also available at Hasbro. We think we will wait for a more rocking version, perhaps with the Stones’ “Mother’s Little Helper.”

Gary Vaynerchuk

How do you turn a small business into a multi-million dollar operation? In Gary Vaynerchuk’s case you create a podcast from the back of your Wine Library, extolling the virtues of various selected types, and then selling them over the Internet. The business was started by his parents, and Gary became an aficionado of the fruit of the vine as a teen. Based in Springfield, New Jersey, he airs his opinions three times a week, and refuses to use the terms and descriptions of most connoisseurs. He will also taste real items, such as dirt and rocks, to compare the taste. Gary is hoping that his Internet lessons will make wine more popular at sporting events. We are not sure that Merlot really goes with stadium hot dogs.
