Superbowl XLI logo

According to Bridgette King, a PR representative for Crutchfield, there has already been a 67% growth in HDTV sales as of the 2nd week of January in Indiana. There has been a 27% growth rate in Illinois. Why is this not surprising? We have seen prices on units drop as much as $1000.00 a pop since November.
If you are a Bears or Colts fan, this second comment from Ms. King should also not surprise you. “Potential TV buyers from the states of the final 2 teams tend to buy their TV in the golden time frame of 1-3 weeks prior to Super Bowl Sunday.” Just remember to say “Da Bears” when you go shopping and you might get an additional discount.

Hitachi Hybridcam

Hitachi has already reared its innovative head with its DZ-HS300E, 301E, 303E Hybridcams which combine both the large capacity of HDD with the convenience of DVD. They feature a multiformat +DVD-RAM/-R/ -RW/+RW burning capability. You can shoot, select, burn, and share without the aid of a computer.

Just as we are adjusting to that wondrous idea, out comes new models, the DZHS-401 and DZHS-403 with an 8GB hard disk, DVD burner, and 3.31 Mpix CCD, and the DZ-HS-503 with a 30GB hard disk. We’re not really complaining. We love that their technology is cutting edge. We just wonder why they decided to ruin the mood by offering it in pink.

LG BH100Every year, CNET grants awards to their pet tech from the CES. Their Best of Show this year goes to the versatile LG BH100, the first disc player with both Blu-ray and HD DVD capabilities. The player will be available in February at such retail outlets as Circuit City and Best Buy for $1,999.00. This is especially good news for those of us who, back in the “old days” actually purchased a Betamax, because it truly was the best of its kind, but phased out much too quickly. We’re hoping that other companies will join in on this video bandwagon and realize it is better to compromise rather than start a tech war.
