BlackBerry Bold launching on AT&T at $299 on November 4

By now, you have probably seen the new BlackBerry Bold Commercial, the one that says almost nothing but “wow.” Wow again at the proposed price when it comes out. AT&T has announced that the RIM device will cost $299.99 with a 2 year contract, more than they charge for the iPhone. Sales should begin around November 4 to welcome in the upcoming holidays. The Bold will support international navigation services and Wi-fi for folks who do a lot of traveling. One analyst, Chris King of Stifel Nicolas, says the appeal will be mostly exec types. Those that can probably will.

You have to admire the looks of the redesigned MIU HDPC. With a 4.1-inch TFT screen (800 x 480) and a 2.4-inch AMOLED display (320 x 240,) we are talking major functional. Partially powered by Intel Atom, its screen can slide, flip and tilt. Use it for computer chores, as a cell phone, play music, or navigate with it. Samsung Epix i907 Starts Arriving At AT&T Stores

The new AT&T Samsung Epix i907 has been showing up in AT&T stores recently as expected. The phone is basically a Blackjack, but benefits from a touch screen incorporating Haptic feedback, a QWERTY keyboard and optical mouse. The phone uses Windows Mobile 6.1 for the Core OS and supports 850MHz, 1900MHz, 2100MHz HSDPA 3G networks and carries a built-in GPS. The i907 also incorporates a microSD slot, 2 megapixel camera, and costs $199 with a 2 year contract. If the iPhone isn’t your thing because tactile QWERTY keyboard is needed, this may be for you.

AT&T is undoubtedly pleased to carry the latest Sony Ericsson W760a cell phone. The 3G Walkman phone features an accelerometer for control by shaking or tilting to fast forward to the next song. The technology can also be used for video games. The cellie has an HTML browser, a 3.2 megapixel cam, dedicated gaming buttons, and AT&T Navigator support. Available in red, black or silver, the W760 carries a price of $129.99 after rebates and purchase of a 2 year contract.

Asus R710 PND With Pathfinder HUD

Asus has released their R710 PND with Pathfinder HUD (Heads-Up Display) technology that allows users to project directions, speed, etc. on car windshields. The GPS system has a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth capability and built-in light sensor. The R710 will also play MP3s, videos and display pictures for those times when you are stuck in traffic. Its MicroSD card slot can handle up to 8GB. At a thickness of only 13.5mm and a weight of only 200g, contact Asus for price and availability.

Hop-on has released a new cellie intended for seniors. The HOP1890, available in the U.S. and Europe, features a Color TFT with large text and bigger buttons at a size of 105 x 47 x 18mm. The company provides a call center that will provide emergency calls, directory assistance and setup help. The phone also has GPS/enhanced location based services for those who wander and a one button location finder. This is all very well and good unless said users forget or lose their phone.

Garmin GPSMAP 640 Does Automotive and Marine

Garmin has taken on a new line of devices with the GPSMAP 640 that not only has road navigation but a marine chart plotter as well. It comes preloaded with their BlueChart g2 data and City Navigator NT for North America. Of course, the case is waterproof and it has a 5.2-inch WVGA touchscreen and an intuitive interface. The 640 can receive XM WX satellite weather data in marine mode and XM NavTraffic information in automotive mode. Expect the GPSMAP in Q1 2009 with a MSRP of $1,199.99.

The Purple Pedals Project

A few buds who like the color purple got together to launch a combination adventure/documentation project. The Purple Pedals Project equipped 20 yBikes with GPS and a camera that automatically snaps a shot once a minute. They then send them from all around the planet and are now attempting to document and share what they are doing via Yahoo mapping. Some of the bikes will be passed around between bloggers, Yahoo users and others, so if you would like to be one of them, or just want to see what they are up to, check out the PPP website.

GM Finally Unveils Chevy Volt

If you live in Michigan, you couldn’t help but be inundated with news about the official unveiling of the Chevy Volt. Run on electricity from its 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery, it has a gas/E85-powered engine to sustain the battery and keep the car moving. GM estimates that a driver who drives about 40 miles per day should save about $1,500 a year. Other features include a 7-inch touchscreen display, climate and infotainment controls, GPS, and Bluetooth capability. Unfortunately, GM won’t even begin production until 2010 on the $40,000 car.
