It features live traffic information so you know the best time to leave and calculates routes on real average road speeds. iCEphoneMedicalPhone recently debuted their iCEphone, so named because of a dedicated emergency button that sends the GPS location to emergency services. The cellie runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro, and has a 3.1 megapixel cam with autofocus and LED flash. At a size of 5 x 2.4 x .9-inches, it has a QWERTY keyboard, 3-inch touchscreen and gaming keypad. Expect 5 hours of talk time and 3 days of standby. Targeted for the military and governmental use, look for it to formally come out in Q2 next year with a price of around $1,000.00.

Nikon GP-1Nikon’s GP-1 GPS Unit can add geotags to your photos so that the latitude, longitude, altitude and time information can be noted. It features 3 blinking lights for satellite receiving indications and gets its power from the camera itself. It takes about 45 seconds to record from a cold start and only 5 sec. with a hot one. The GP-1 is compatible with the Nikon D90, D3, D300, D700, D2Xs and D200, although some may need a cable and firmware update. At a size of 2 x 1.8 x 1-inches, pre-order at J&R for $209.00.

Mio 3G HandsetMio Technology plans on launching a Windows Mobile-based 3.5G GPS handset in Q1. It will feature a Qualcomm 3.5G chipset, a Spirit touch user interface and a built-in 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera. The company has also announced that it will be releasing a MID with GPS capability by the end of the first quarter and will have a 7 or 8-inch TFT-LCD display, 3G technology and will run on a Windows CE operating system.

Well, I guess that November 21 rumor was true, because the firmware update is now available. This one is pretty hefty in the feature department too, so color us excited. You’ve got the a few nice enhancements to Maps, including Google Street View, public transit directions, walking directions, and the ability to share your GPS location with others via email. Speaking of email, the Mail client enjoys some stability improvements in this release as well, along with better handling of wide HTML email. Safari picks up performance improvements, we get the promise of fewer set-up failures and call drops, and better sound quality for Visual Voicemail.
