Helio Ocean 2Virgin Mobile has announced that their Helio Ocean 2 will launch on February 12. This model is slimmer than the first generation but still has the dual-sliding design. Aside from the QWERTY keyboard, the phone features a 2.6-inch TFT display (240x320,) 3G connectivity, GPS with Google maps, stereo Bluetooth, a media player with background mode playback and access to social networking sites. It will also have 3D gaming, a file viewer with editing and a 2MP camera. A 512MB MicroSD card is included in the $149.00 price.

CS 903Sony Ericsson new CyberShot slider phone was oddly enough code-named Frances. (We wonder if this will start a trend.) The C903 has 2.4-inch TFT screen with 320x240p resolution, A-GPS, an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and active lens cover. Included are capabilities in other CyberShot phones such as PhotoFix, Face Detection and Smile Shutter. Available in a choice of 2 colors, Frances should make its debut at the end of Q2.

Dolphin 9950Honeywell’s Dolphin 9950 is a handheld computer that runs on a 624MHz Marvell PXA270 processor with Windows Mobile 6.0 and 3.5-inch touchscreen. It also features a GPS quad band, GSM networking, a digital cam, 802.11b/g Bluetooth capability and barcode scanning with the company’s Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0. Similar to their 9900, this model also has an integrated pistol grip and can handle dust, moisture and dropping on concrete, not that you should do that. Choose between a 56 or 43 key layout. Touch CruiseIf you want more than basic GPS, the newly updated HTC Touch Cruise doesn’t simply give navigational directions, it allows you to take a picture while their Footprints software saves your location. You can then add your comments and audio. The phone also has a one-touch interface and lets you locate services and traffic tangling. This a great phone for geocachers and those who want to convince their friends that they actually saw Mt. Denali.  Look for the unlocked Touch Cruise in the spring for about $500.00 to $600.00.

Clothing is becoming smarter all the time. O’Neill’s NavJacket can upload and share your ski runs with others at over 180 United States and 420 European resorts. The jacket has an LCD display, e-textile keypad and GPS unit built into its sleeve. Those who lose their buds while skiing can use their friend-finder to get back together. Maybe the only exercise you get these days is on your Wii, so Nokia has upped its N79 smartphone to bring you the Active and get you out of the house. It has a SportsTracker application that utilizes an onboard GPS, accelerometer and data connection to keep track of your exercising.  Track your miles run, speed, heart rate and include music. You can also upload to the SportsTracker website. The Active comes with a Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt and a CP-324 elastic armband case at a price of $492.00.

Google Street ViewThis should be a lesson to all those parents who complain when their kids ask for cell phones. Utilizing Google Street View and a mobile phone signal, a 9 year-old girl has been found after she was allegedly kidnapped by her grandmother. After Natalie Maltais went missing in Athol, Massachusettes in what was supposed to only be a weekend, police officer Todd Neale used the girl’s cell phone to track them. Fire chief Thomas Lozier used View to locate the hotel in Virginia where the child and grandmother were found.
