Gran Turismo 5 attempts in-game car damage for the first time. The results? Well, lets just say that they didn’t attempt this earlier for a reason. Hopefully they’ll get it right by the time the game comes out. Have a look for yourself after the jump and let us know what you think!

gran turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5 is causing some controversy in the beautiful Italian city of Siena. How can a racing game spark controversy you ask? Does GT5 feature a new crash mode where tires fly off of vehicles and decapitate prostitutes and police officers? Nope. The reason for the controversy is GT5’s use of Siena’s city Piazza del Campo as a track in the upcoming game, and more specifically, using the flags and colors of the Palio di Siena without permission. Due to this Siena is threatening to stop the game from seeing the light of day.

Whether or not the flags will be removed is still up in the air, but Kazunori would like to see them remain as they heighten the aesthetics of the Italian course. Gran Turismo 5 designer Kazunori Yamauchi lamented via twitter his hesitation to remove them, “We can remove them in an instant…[though] erasing them is somewhat regrettable.”

Summer of Arcade 2010

The third-annual Xbox Live Arcade Summer of Arcade kicks off on Wednesday, and goes through August 18th with a block of five titles that Microsoft thinks are worthy of knocking your socks off. Things start off with the release of Limbo on July 21, which is the black and white mystery game where a boy sets out to discover the fate of his sister. On July 28th, Hydro Thunder Hurricane drops, with Castlevania Harmony of Despair coming the week after, bringing the 2D side-scrolling goodness of Castlevania back to the forefront. On August 11th, Monday Night Combat, a fresh take on the multiplayer shooter comes out, and things wrap up on August 18th with the return of Lara Croft. Nope, this one isn’t a Tomb Raider game. Instead, it’s Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, a fun mix of exploration and combat.

The Summer of Arcade is generally when Microsoft looks to release a back-to-back string of amazing titles. This year, they’ve upped the ante a bit with a special promo. If you buy any three of the five Summer of Arcade titles listed above by the end of August, you’ll receive 400 Microsoft Points back. If you decide to spring for all five, you’ll get 1200 Microsoft Points. How’s that for putting their money where their mouth is?

DiRT 2 e3 2009 impressions

As a big fan of DiRT and having put in many hours into the game, I was extremely excited to get my hands on the demo at the Microsoft booth at this years .  DiRT 2 looks and feels like DiRT, but with a kick. Powered by the third generation of the EGO Engine’s racing game technology, DiRT 2 offers tuned-up car-handling and new damage engine effects.

It’s all about details and that’s what makes the difference. Depending on your car, tuning or even what type of road you are on, every vehicle will feel different. Find a car you love?  You are able to use your favorite vehicle and tune it with add-ons. With seven vehicle classes and a large collection of officially licensed rally cars and off-roads vehicles, I doubt you will have any problem in finding the best vehicle.

Project Gotham RacingRemi Pedersen, a graphics product manager at ARM, says that by this winter the Mali-200 and Mali-400 processors will allow you to play what looks like an Xbox 360 game on your lowly cell phone. On display at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, he will be running Project Gotham Racer, an Xbox 1 title, in Open GL ES, which performs like the original but feature-wise looks like a 360 title.

GTAA 6 year-old boy in Virginia missed his school bus so he decided to take his parents’ car to school. During his time behind the wheel, he passed some cars, made a couple of 90º turns and ran off the road a few times. He eventually crashed after driving almost 6 miles, but suffered only minor injuries. His parents were then charged with child endangerment when it was found that his mom was asleep during the incident. The funny part of the story was that he told police he learned to drive while playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam. What we want to know is why the a kid that old would want to get to school so badly, although he claims it was for breakfast and PE class.
