Aqua StarLet’s file this one under, “But why would you want to?” Brothers Dmitry and Timophey Ryabikiny have designed an underwater two-seater motorcycle. No special equipment is needed as the design includes a helmet with air supply available and a system to prevent glass steam-up. The Russian Aqua Star has two motors, the second one allowing the rider to maneuver by pressing and holding a button. The bike can go to a depth of 12 meters and move 7 km/hour. The brothers plan on making their prototype available next summer.

Silicon Touch Case

The Silicon Touch iPhone case was designed by Bruno Fosi for the visually impaired. The cover has modified bas-relief buttons that goes in tandem with a home screen without hampering the touch and scrolling functions. He also incorporated accessibility functions like moon type tactile feedback and text to speech. With a little practice, the prototype might even be a viable cover for those who like to use their iPhones under the covers when their partner thinks they are snoozing.

Keyhole SurgeryMoritz Waldemeyer decided to take up the challenge of redesigning the game “Operation.” He came up with a 3D version called Keyhole Surgery in which you have to place the key in a maze without touching the sides. He included a file so that you can study it before you give it a go. The person with the least amount of touches wins. We dig the idea of the prototype game, but this is definitely not one to play at a kegger.

Dell Design Studio announced today that their Studio laptop line is taking customization to the next level – you can now have one of more than 100 designs tattooed on the lid of your Dell Studio 15 or 17 laptop in Dell Design Studio, a unique online experience which allows the purchaser to personalize their new laptop with exclusive, original artwork.

The company says it has commissioned over 100 works of original art from a number of different artists, such as Mike Ming, Guillaume Wolf, Tristan Eaton, Brittany Waldner and Joseph Amedokpo. Online shoppers in the U.S. can apply a design, change viewing angles, zoom in on details, and read an artist’s inspiration or bio with a few mouse clicks. Once you have chosen your favorite design, it can be applied to the lid of the Studio system being ordered, at a cost of $75; choose one of the 52 (PRODUCT)RED designs and Dell directly donates $20 to the Global Fund, which helps fund AIDS programs in Africa.

Dell notes that the art is permanently infused or “tattooed” into the laptop display’s back, making it extremely durable. The question is: will you change your wardrobe to match your computer, or just pick out a design that goes with what you already wear?

Maybe, eventually (we hope), the consumer will be able to submit their own artwork for a truly custom lid – but let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700If you want to pick up a camera for your loved one that is as much a fashion statement as it is a photography device, you’ve gotta consider the fashionista-friendly Cyber-Shot DSC-T700. It’s not all about the looks, though, because this camera packs in a bunch of features. Like what? How about anti-blink and Smile Shutter technology? It also features a 3.5-inch ultra-high resolution touchscreen display, shoots at up to 10.1 megapixels, and includes 4GB of internal memory. It also includes the Picture Motion Browser software package, but seriously, who’s gonna use that? The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T700 retails for $399.99, but on Amazon we were able to find substantial discounts, depending on which color you were interested in:

There’s also a gold version, but we didn’t include that one since there was no discount available on it. Definitely a good gift for the woman in your life.

Cobo HallIf you live in Michigan, lately it is one bad day after another. We love going to the NAIAS to see the concept cars but will probably pass on the next one. Mitsubishi (Nissan) is the latest automaker to pull out of the event. They follow on the heels of Rolls-Royce, Land Rover, Ferrari and Suzuki. This may not be the end of it as others are also thinking along the same lines, that there is just no market here. Meanwhile, the powers that be push to save the big three and plan an enlargement of Cojo Hall (where the NAIAS is held.) Think energy efficient, Detroit!

RemoteNo more fighting for the remote if Oki Japan and a team from Waseda University have their way. They place 4 microphones in the front of a remote, then utilize an algorithm for voice frequency analysis. This separates the main voice from other ambient noise sources. We are assuming that if you are the one who carries the loudest voice, then you will be the one to rule the remote. We will be curious once the device goes pass the prototype stage and becomes channel surfing survival of the fastest, or loudest.
