Mac Pro Nehalem 2009Continuing with all the desktop releases today, the company has announced a newly-redesigned Nehalem-based Mac Pro. The price starts at $2,499, which gets you a 2.66GHz quad-core Intel Xeon 3500, 3GB RAM, and a 640GB hard drive. If an 8-core system is more your thing, you can grab a Mac Pro with two 2.26GHz quad-core Nehalems, with 6GB RAM, for $3,299. The Nehalem chips support HyperThreading, so you get double the amount of virtual cores as you do real cores, and they support triple RAM data rate. As in customary with all the new Apple computers, the new Mac Pro sports a Mini DisplayPort, which means it is usable with the LED Cinema Display.

The new Mac Pro is available now.

DescriptionYamaha has created a digital piano that sounds like an acoustic one with the same key, level and hammer mechanisms. They say that their Avant Grand, with 4 embedded speakers, even feels like a real piano. At about 4 1/2 feet, half the size of an ordinary Grand, it has upgradeable software and the company’s TRS (Tactile Response System) that reproduces reverb to make it sound and feel more like the real thing. The Avant Grand will set you back about $20,000, about one hundred grand cheaper that Yamaha’s CFIIIS concert grand. Look for the debut in July.

It’s called 2019, and it’s ‘s vision for what the year 2019 will look like as it pertains to technology and how it will be completely integrated into our lifestyle. While 2019 looks like a far away number, this is just 10 years away, people.  Do we think things will look like this by then? No, not so much…but we will be well on our way. Check out the two-minute version above, and if it strikes your fancy, click on through to watch the five-minute version. It makes me cry with glee.

16943

Studio FRST has come up with an interesting prototype TV. The 16943 displays video in aspect ratios of both 16:9 and 4:3 so that whatever you are watching is properly framed. At a size of 618 x 840 x 120mm, there is a DVD player slot in the side. Placed on a glass stand, the idea is certainly interesting, especially as it would eliminate some of those annoying bars, and the name obviously fitting, but we are not sure that we could adjust to the jarring shape.

ZumbaIA Technologies is working to release their Zumba phone, supposedly the world’s first fully accurate voice recognition celllie. Attach an earpiece to the back of the handset and you can operate it mostly with your voice, although you need to push a button to get text messages read to you. Detach the keypad and screen and you can wear it over your ear. Promised to be low-cost, you say your contact’s name and Zumba connects you via a secure site. This phone has been in development for about 3 years and you can sign up to keep track of the progress made. We are not sure if this will come to pass in the near future, but we do know the company is looking for investors.
