Monster and Vivienne Tam collaborate on Butterfly in-ear headphones

Damn, Monster Cable is continuing to flood the headphone market, this time going outside of their Beats by Dr. Dre partnership, and instead doing a collabo with fashion designer Vivienne Tam of HP netbook fame. The product will be known at the Butterfly in-ear headphones, and each earbud will have colorful butterfly artwork on it, and it’s all finished up with a light gold-brushed finish. They are being positioned as both a music accessory and a fashion piece, which we guess kind of explains the $199.95 price point. So, who’s picking these up when they ship in April?

MacBook decals aren’t new to us, heck I have mine decked out in the Snow’s Revenge vinyl myself, but this Iron Man decal kind of takes the cake in the awesomeness department. What do you think? Are you a fan of the decals? We like them way more than stickers, because they can be easily removed without leaving any sort of residue.

We’ve been anticipating the nook for about a month-and-a-half now, even since Barnes & Noble announced the nook back in October. Seeing a potential, real competitor to the Amazon Kindle sporting both an e-ink screen alongside a capacitive color LCD touchscreen just about made us drool. Oh, and it runs Google Android too, so, there’s that whole thing. Well, we’ve finally got the Barnes & Noble nook into our hands, and we’ve done some testing, some reading, and some playing, all in the spirit of letting you know how the nook stands on its own, and how it compares to the Amazon Kindle. When I first saw the Snow’s Revenge MacBook Pro image that you see above, I thought it was a clever and unique etching. When I realized that it was simply just a $15 vinyl applique, I bought on immediately. I mean, seriously, how cool is it to see a seemingly dark-sidish Snow White holding on to a glowing Apple? Just saying.

White MacBook gets unibody treatment, now available

Apple’s got more goodness for us today, with their new unibody MacBook. You know, their 13-inch white notebook that seems to have been neglected for the better part of a year? There is much more to this than just a move to the unibody enclosure. The MacBook still starts at $999, and now ships with a 13-inch LED-backlit display, glass multitouch trackpad, and a built-in non-removeable 7 hour battery. On the inside it’s got a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 9400M GPU, and a 250GB hard drive. The underside is changed as well, now sporting a non-slip rubberized surface. The new MacBook is available now.

LaCie’s new hard drives designed by Philippe Starck

Take a look at this new hard drive by LaCie. It may not be as durable and water-resistant as the SH93 from A-DATA, but it makes up for it in aesthetics.
They are designed by Philippe Starck, who is well known in the tech and electronics industry for making gadgets that look stylish. One of his last products was some nice looking wireless speakers for Parrot.
For those who want those sexy hard drives, it costs $200 for the 320GB version and $140 for the 500GB. As for the desktop drives, they cost $130 for the 1TB version and $250 for the 2TB.

As if CEATEC Japan wasn’t exciting enough for tech enthusiasts, Dell had a press conference to show off the Adamo XPS. You can get a glimpse of it in the image above. The man you see clutching onto it for dear life is Dell VP Alex Gruzen, who had this to say about the 9.99 millimeter notebook: “When you see it, when you touch it, you’ll lust after it.”
He then went on to put it away, neglecting to give any information about the internals. We don’t have a price from Dell either, but we do know that custom lids and designs add $40-85 to the total cost.

Sony celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month with pink products

If you didn’t know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. SonyStyle is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness with the purchase of the Pink W Series Mini notebook PCBundle or Rose Reader Pocket Edition. They plan on donating $110,000 in conjunction with the October sales of these two products.
They are also planning on donating all profits earned at SonyStyle stores from 6PM to 8PM on October 20th to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and that applies to all purchases, pink or not.

I’m not in the habit of keeping my portable hard drives next to the bathtub, but if I did, the SH93 from A-DATA would be a legitimate contender. These new portable HDDs can last up to 30 minutes when plunged into one meter of water. And hey, not only is it water-resistant, but it’s durable in other ways. The rubberized coating can survive the military MIL-STD-810F drop test, so you know it’s solid, right?
No word on pricing or availability as yet, but they will come in a red or yellow finish in memory capacities of 240, 320, 500, and 640GB.

Another Microsoft Courier video shows how it’ll work

Remember that Microsoft Courier video we showed you last week? Well our friends at Gizmodo were able to uncover a bit more about the mysterious and astonishing Microsoft tablet device. In the leaked video above, you get a look at the way that the fine folks in Redmond think you’ll integrate the Courier tablet device into your everyday life. We must say, it’s insanely slick, and we hope that it works exactly as shown. Of course, this is just a demo, and it doesn’t even feature a real hand or stylus.
That said, we are big fans of the “infinite journal” approach, and we can certainly see a lot of professional uses for such a device with a natural input system. What we are still curious about, though, is if this thing is also meant to be a multimedia device. You know, movies, games, music? The things that we are expecting the Apple tablet to excel at? Or is this a case of Microsoft recognizing that Apple has a stronghold in that area, and as such, they’ll focus on a different, underserved demographic? Time will tell.
