Listen up, all you Gear Livers. Last week we told you about the robber with his own MySpace entry, in an effort to apprehend him somewhere between Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Sgt. Jarrad Copeland has told Gear Live that he has also posted on YouTube. Take a good look and if you think you have seen the alleged perpetrator, become a superhero and turn in the guy. We’d rather not meet him at our local convenience store and assume you probably would feel the same way.

Cybershot G1

Sony has just come out with their first WiFi camera, the Cybershot G1. Available next month, the point-and-shoot features a 3.5-inch LCD, 3x optical zoom, 2GB internal memory (expandable with Memory Stick Duo and PRO Duo cards,) slide show with music capabilities, and a slew of wireless sharing options with its 802.11b/g WiFi. It also has Sony’s usual SteadyShot and Anti-Blur features, and a price of around $600.00. Although it has taken Sony a while to catch up to Nikon and Canon, we understand they have been a bit busy lately in other areas of electronics and hope the G1 has been worth the wait.

Cat with Glow Eye before and after Ok, fess up. You know you take as many photos of your pets Fido and Woody as you do of your newborn. But we bet most of those photos have “glow eye”, where your pet’s retina has that eerie “Village of the Damned”-look much like “red eye” in humans. The folks at Hewlett-Packard feel your pain, so it’s introducing the R837, a digital camera with built-in software that replaces the glow with a more realistic black dot. It even adds a small white dot to the eye, to show the direction Woody is looking at. In addition to having 7.2 MP, a 3X optical zoom and 3” display, the R837 also includes software that does away with blemishes and wrinkles—in humans, not pets. The R837 will be available next month for $230. However, the 1960 British horror classic “Village of the Damned” (and its sequel) are available now…

GiraffeConference calls will soon be easily and more personably obtained with the Giraffe Video Robot. Created by HeadThere Inc., the company claims that anyone that has ever used a computer and a telephone can handle its technology. The Giraffe is a fully mobile camera and video screen mounted on an adjustable height robotic base. When enabled, the odd-looking gadget has auto-answer mode so that the caller can connect at any time.
The Giraffe will be available somewhere between $1800 and $3000 in 2008. They will also be offering a discount for those who pre-order, so we are thinking that’s where the “between” comes in. We might go for it if they promise to paint ours orange and throw in a few spots.

EasyShare Z712 IS Camera

Kodak has announced its new line of EasyShare Cameras at this week’s PMA, (the Photo Marketing Association’s Annual Conference and Exposition.) Included in the line is the 7.1 megapixel Z712 IS digital camera with a 12X optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization, and click-to capture performance (0.26 sec.) The camera is expected to hit shelves this April with a MSRP of $299.95. We’re thinking that this would make a handy companion to the new EasyShare Printers due out around the same time.

Brian JohnsonIt would seem that Massachusetts patrolman Brian Johnson has seen the wanted poster on MySpace and carried the idea one step further. After studying a surveillance video with two men using possibly stolen credit cards, he posted a clip of it on YouTube. He then sent it to about 300 organizations and people to see if they had seen the alleged suspects.

“You don’t have to be a technology wizard to figure out how to watch a video on YouTube,” Johnson said.

Other police departments have also used the service, thinking that Internet users may identify suspects and aid in their capture, although it is too early to tell if this will have the positive results that other media sources such as “America’s Most Wanted” have. Johnson’s criminal was eventually caught, although he attributes the score to good old-fashioned police work.

Bank RobberDo you know this man? Police Sergeant Jarrad Copeland posted this profile of a bank robber on MySpace in order to help catch him. The man, wearing only an FBI-lettered jacket, baseball cap, and sunglasses as a disguise, appears to be about 60 years old. Copeland created the entry as a way to draw attention to his possible capture. Oddly enough, the posting already claims over almost 800 friends. With the man having been sighted in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri, we don’t know that this will actually aid in the capture of the alleged criminal, but it sure beats a milk carton.

MCA

Royal Philips Electronics, in cooperation with Intel, has formally announced plans to design and manufacture Mobile Clinical Assistants (MCAs,) which will allow physicians and nurses keep up to date with their charges. The wireless device will contain patient information which will be stored into electronic medical records. The MCA features a 10.4-inch XGA touch-screen, RFID and barcode scanning, a digital camera, and LAN connectivity.

The companies say that the MCA will fill out charts, capture vital signs, reduce medication errors, monitor wound healing, and write up reports. Production is expected to begin in Q4 of this year. If they can get it to clean bedpans, we would be incredibly impressed.
