Folger Commercial Entrant

While we were doing research on women who have better memory retention by drinking coffee, we noticed that Folgers is willing to help you age with more awareness with a free sample. We call that great timing. They also invite you to make your own commercial on their site, and they will donate $1.00 to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (up to $150,000) each time you create one or vote for others’. We figure that you will get such a rush from the caffeine in their gourmet coffee that your creativity will kick into maximum mode.

TeleshadowFollowing the Japanese tradition of Shoji (paper walls) to divide rooms, the Teleshadow turns images made from a video cam in the user’s home into outlines that have been projected in a small, square lamp by way of its software. Designer Shunpei Yasuda says that the shadows fills a gap between live video and static pictures. It is then possible to set up a voice call to the image (which can consist of up to four friends) by touching the screen.

Yasuda claims that the walls offer privacy while the shadows cast an intimacy to remind users that they are not alone. It might be a nice idea to be able to feel another’s presence close by, but we are not always sure that we want the watcher to be able to capture us if we are having a particularly bad hair day.

DSC-T5 CybershotSony is yet again going through another recall. It seems that the casing on some of its DCS-T5 Cybershot digital cameras might peel and/or warp creating a sharp edge. The company has offered to replace it at no charge, including shipping, for the recall of approximately 416,000 cams sold in Japan, the U.S., Europe, and China. Check the bottom of the camera if you think yours might be suspect and look for serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100.
Sony first noticed the defect one month after its Sept. 2005 release, when 30 Japanese consumers reported small cuts and scratches. Our only question to Sony is why it took the company so long to get to a total recall of the defective parts?

i-Caught

i-Caught is another example of how the Internet is influencing the “real” world. Beginning August 7, ABC is launching a newsmag for YouTubers which will feature breaking news stories and investigations, political issues, celeb sightings, and Internet hoaxes. With anchor Bill Weir, the program plans on taking original videos and some from other viral sites.

“The watershed event that changed newsgathering was the London terror attack in 2005,” said Executive Producer David Sloan. “There were people on that subway who did not know if they would live or die, but they got out their cell phones and started shooting.”

The network is looking for the juciest of clips such as Hoff’s drunken hamburger feed and Michael Richard’s tirade at The Comedy Club. We suggest before they begin airing the show that you go out with your video cam and start looking for your 15 minutes of fame since ABC is still taking submissions.
