Head-CamBobbies in the UK must be pleased with their new acquisitions of head-cams. Approximately £3 million worth of the devices are to be given to police in England and Wales. Tested in Plymouth, the cams replace written statements omitting the need for paperwork and can be used as evidence. Able to store up to 400 hours of footage, officers are instructed to wear signs that say “I am video recording you.” Excuse us, but wouldn’t that be obvious to all except the overly-inebriated?

M8Cool Cell Phone

This cell phone by M8cool was created for those who love to disco, want to stand out in a crowd, or have stock in Duracell. The entire front panel is covered with flashing lights as is the keypad and the camera in the back. We wonder if that affects the outcome of the image. For that matter, will it bop in time to its ringtones? Nonetheless, it makes you want to sing one more chorus of “Stayin’ Alive,” doesn’t it?

NAVLockheed is pleased to announce that the Pentagon is using our tax dollars to fund the development of a small rocket-thrusted spy cam based on the design of a maple seed. The mini-copter houses communication, navigation, telemetry devices, along with its own imaging sensors and power source.

The NAV (Nano Air Vehicle) could be used for biological or chemical detection, evidence of humans via body heat and breathing, or maybe even seeking out elusive WMDs. We suspect that the term “released in swarms” refers to dispersing them by air, although they might consider the fact that many of these NAVs will look somewhat foolish because we don’t think there are a lot of Silver Maples trees in deserts.

Holding up to 54 MB of memory, it features face detection technology and automatic red eye removal. Take your choice of colors of black, blue, forest or lime green, orange, red, and pink. No word yet on price and availability, although we wouldn’t be surprised at its being offered up as Christmas fare.

It’s no top of the line model, but we still dig our new Flipvideo. Going through video withdrawal, we purchased one on a whim and set out to test our new toy. It is so simple to operate that we are eternally grateful to puredigital. The MSRP for the cam is $149.99, but we managed to purchase one on Amazon for $130.00 with free shipping. We figure we had better invest the savings into rechargeable batteries as this puppy only comes with 2 standard AA’s. Details to follow.

Image Moments

This digital picture display caught our eye for its versatility. Digital Foci’s Image Moments features a hi-res digital LCD screen, a 7.4-inch viewing area, built-in support for memory card, interchangeable frame, automatic slide show with random or adjustable time and transition, and an automatic on/off timer. At a size of 11.4 x 9.8 x 1.9-inches, it can be used vertically, horizontally, or mounted with included wall brackets.

The IM supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 video as well as MP3 audio. The display offers file management, copy, deletion and renaming of photos. It comes in a standard black but eight different frames are available. The MSRP is a cool $169.00 after a $30.00 mail-in rebate. We can just picture our boss having one of these on his desk while we are inundated with 8 hours of Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family.”
