This year is teeming with mini-cameras and the VholdR has become part of the line that is made for those on the go that want their exploits seen online. The cam is only 3.7-inches and weighs merely 4.8 oz. Shooting 640 x 480 footage at 30 fps, it utilizes a microSD card for storage. Its lens has a twin laser alignment and can rotate, and the unit itself is waterproof and shockproof. The VholdR will be up for grabs sometime during the holiday season for $349.99, although the company is encouraging pre-order with a deposit of $50.00. Online retailer Twenty20 Cameras claims that there will be only a limited supply, but we figure that there are plenty of other mini-cams to choose from that we can actually touch before buying.

Cops in Orange County, New York have been given Pistol Cams so that they can record moments before they shoot the bad guys. Originally designed to videotape animals when hunting, they can be used to show unlawful force and review incidents after the gun is fired. Attached to a gun barrel, the Legend Technologies cam is so precise that it can capture a speeding bullet after it has been shot, cannot be broken into for tampering, and as Captain Dennis Barry of the Sheriff’s Office claims, “ensures the public the police are not overstepping their boundaries.” All this time we figured that’s why Superman stuck around the big cities.

You too, can aspire to be James Bond with this prototype digital camera. The Canon snap is small enough to be discreet yet can house high-quality optics. Designed by David Münsher for atomare, it features a single button interface and can be worn like a ring. We figure it might also come in handy for places that you are not supposed to bring in cameras anymore, such as concert or nightclubs with drunken celebs. You just never know when that next paparazzi shot will net you the big bucks.

Audi’s A1 Part of Concept Car

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Smartphones, Corporate News, GPS, Handhelds, Transportation, Wireless / WiFi,
Audi has decided to include a mobile phone as part of its A1 Metroproject Quattro concept hybrid. The handheld acts as a phone, video and audio player, and supports both 3G UMTS and WiFi technology. Before sliding it into it’s slot on the dashboard, it will also start your car, unlock it by remote, and heat it up before you are forced out in the cold.
There’s more. The A1 will alert you by snapping an image on digicam in the car if someone likes your new purchase as much as you do and decides to borrow it. If that occurs, it will track the thief’s wild ride by GPS. We would just be happy to use that feature to let us know where we parked before the lot got overcrowded with hordes of Holiday shoppers.

Four Cams Are Better Than One When Parking

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Design, Transportation,
Parking should get a wee bit easier now that Matsushita has designed an omni-directional camera system that displays the vehicle as if it was shot from above your car. Four previously available Panasonic 250,000-pixel rear view cams were placed on the front, rear, left, and right sides, while their images can be seen on an ECU navigational screen inside and synthesized to look like it is one image.
Previewed as a prototype at this year’s CEATEC 2007 in Japan, the company plans on releasing their device within the next year or so. We figure it will be useful around those pesky deer that try to grab our parking spaces when we go camping.
