If you’re tired of watching movies on your iPod’s tiny screen you may be excited by this innovation: the Optoma Pico Projector is a pocket-sized projector which runs on batteries and can project images and videos from a variety of sources like iPod, iPhone, digital cameras, cellphones and DVD players with 480x320 resolution and a maximum screen size of 65 inches at 8.5 feet. It uses a non-replaceable 20,000 hour LED lamp and a DLP chip from Texas Instruments. The battery lasts for 90 minutes and can be recharged through USB or with its own power cord. The device weighs four ounces and comes with a built-in speaker which is practically useless – its primary flaw. If you want one, it goes on sale in two weeks and will cost $430, which should clear up some space in your pocket.

SNEAKEY Reproduces Keys by Teleduplication

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Mods / Hacks, Science,

A team from UCSD came up with a way to steal keys without detection. Their SNEAKEY system used teleduplication to take an image of these keys from 195 feet away using imaging equipment, then managed to duplicate them with computer vision algorithms. You can read the details of the studies that were conducted in both laboratory and real settings on their site. The moral of the story is that even though these were the good guys, always keep your keys in your pocket when not needed.

A little nervous about voting? We won’t mention the term “hanging chad” (oops) but poll experts suggest that you not only bring your ID with you but take a picture of your ballot as well. Video the Vote goes one step further and suggests you record your experience to share with other citizen journalists, indy filmmakers, and media pros. You can upload them on the site and they will cross post to YouTube. We would love to see them, too! Now get your butt out there and do your American duty!

Motorola ZINE ZN5 Camera Phone Available Today

Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Cameras, Smartphones,

Motorola‘s 5-megapixel ZN5 cameraphone arrived online and in select corporate T-Mobile stores this morning. Unlike most camera phone’s, the quad-band ZN5 takes high resolution photos using Kodak Imaging Technology – including autofocus, low-light optimization, and a real Xenon flash. Once you’ve snapped a picture, it can be instantly sent via MMS, WiFi or Bluetooth – or you can store it on 350MB of internal memory which is expandable up to 4GB via microSD.
With a price as low as $99 with a 2-year contract, we think this will be a popular new choice; however, the phone lacks support for T-Mobile’s new 3G network, opting instead for EDGE, which will certainly make some think twice before signing up.

Sharp Aquos Fulltough 931SH high-resolution mobile phone

Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Cameras, Smartphones, Handhelds, Portable Audio / Video, Wireless / WiFi,
The Japanese always manage to get the best cell phones first and we always hope they trickle over to the U.S. and the new Sharp Aquos Fulltouch 931SH is no exception to the rule. This new cell phone is an obvious response to the iPhone and its touch technology. The one thing that sets this cell phone apart is the incredible screen resolution of 1024 x 480, bringing it close to that of a netbook. The 931SH also incorporates a 5.2 megapixel camera with stabilizer technology, a 1seg TV tuner, Bluetooth with A2DP, an accelerometer, web browser, media player, a microSD slot and of course, a touch screen as the name implies. The phone also works on all 3G networks, making it viable for U.S. as well as world-wide consumption, although no time-frame has been mentioned.

Our fave wholesalers have come up with a new pocket-sized point and shoot 5 megapixel Digital Camera with 3-inch TFT LCD screen. With high res JPEG images and MPEG4 AVI video capability, it features easily adjustable settings such as red eye fix, white balance, and 3 burst shots. The cam is also PictBridge compatible and comes with a USB and AV cable combination and pouch. At a price of only $99.99, we can probably forgive its uncool chartreuse color.

MINOX Agent M Belt Camera

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Wearables, Portable Audio / Video, USB,
We figure that since most people don’t really peek at others’ belt buckles, the MINOX Agent M Belt Camera would be a fun accessory for any wannabe spy. At a length of 110 cm, it features r/t recording in 3GP video with a QCIF resolution of 176 x 144 pixels at 15fps. The cam supports digital voice recording, runs on a Li-ion battery and allows for storage up to 2 GB on Micro SD/T flash cards. At a price of €229.00 (~$299.00,) the belt comes with a USB cord and probably isn’t recommended for really short 007 types.
