Camera Phone Predator Alert Act

New York Representative Peter King has introduced a bill called the “Camera Phone Predator Alert Act.” The idea is that mobile phones with digital cameras must make a sound when a photo is taken. King believes that this will ensure public privacy and safety, especially when it comes to children. Any phone made after the date the bill is enacted cannot disable the sound. Although chances for the bill don’t look promising at this point, Japan already requires that all camera phones, including the iPhone, make an audible sound.

Need a quicky camera mount for use with a mic stand? “mnwingnut” wanted to create something that was cheap, easy, secure and small. He finally picked up both a non-threaded female to male PVC adapter and threaded PVC cap, added a nut, wingnut and bolt, some flexible water hose and he had himself a mini-mount. Sony Ericsson new CyberShot slider phone was oddly enough code-named Frances. (We wonder if this will start a trend.) The C903 has 2.4-inch TFT screen with 320x240p resolution, A-GPS, an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and active lens cover. Included are capabilities in other CyberShot phones such as PhotoFix, Face Detection and Smile Shutter. Available in a choice of 2 colors, Frances should make its debut at the end of Q2.

HTC Touch Cruise Smartphone

If you want more than basic GPS, the newly updated HTC Touch Cruise doesn’t simply give navigational directions, it allows you to take a picture while their Footprints software saves your location. You can then add your comments and audio. The phone also has a one-touch interface and lets you locate services and traffic tangling. This a great phone for geocachers and those who want to convince their friends that they actually saw Mt. Denali. Look for the unlocked Touch Cruise in the spring for about $500.00 to $600.00.

Help Choose Superbowl Commercial

Here’s your chance to participate in a video commercial contest that may get you a couple of free tickets to the Superbowl XLIII Feb. 1. It’s too late to enter your own video, but you can still vote on the others done by amateur videographers. Last year’s Dorito spot was really amusing and we expect with all the mini-camcorders floating around these days this year will have similar results. Voting ends Jan. 25. By the way, we saw a glimpse of one that could be eTrade’s entry with a bunch of talking babies, similar to last year’s spot. Don’t they know that massive amounts of spitting up is not good for keyboards?

We’ve been getting quite a few emails today asking about the camera that Malia Obama was using during Barack Obama’s inaugural address, so we figured a post was in order. Malia was taking images and/or recording video on her Kodak EasyShare M893 IS 8.1MP digital camera.
