Apple 2007

So, we have MacWorld starting in about a week, and we have Apple rumors flying all over the place. Of course, everyone is hoping there will be an Apple Phone (not iPhone). Others are hoping for a finalized version of the iTV product. Then there are some wishing for a refreshed line of Cinema Displays that have integrated iSight cameras and HDCP-compliant HDMI ports. Oh, and there is also that new Leopard operating system that is said to be pretty fancy. So, what does Apple go and do since they know that they have the attention of the masses? They put up an image like the one above on their homepage, declaring that everything they have done in the history of the company was just the beginning…it was all meant to lay the foundation for what is coming in 2007. Apple fanboys unite, this could be the best your of your lives.

iTunes logoRecipients of iPods and iTunes gift cards swarmed over Apple’s music store over the last few days, apparently causing 20 minute slowdowns and error messaging. Beginning this past Monday, onliners began to post frantic “help me” messages on their tech forum.

Still looking into the situation, Apple must surely be feeling the cash flow, since online market researcher Hitwise has reported that 4 times as many shoppers visited the iTunes website on Christmas this season as compared to last year. As of now, Apple dominates that market by about 75%, however increased competition could cost them as much as 5% in 2007, according to research analyst Gene Munster.

DLO Homedock Deluxe

The DLO HomeDock Deluxe is the current be-all end-all dock solution for sending all of your media that resides on your iPod to your television. It supports music, high resolution slideshows, and 640x480 video. S-video and composite connections are available, giving you a couple of options for sending the signal along, and the dock itself is able to both charge and sync your iPod. Throw in a remote that lets you control everything untethered, and this one is a winner. As far as iPod accessories go, this one isn’t the cheapest in the world, but it is certainly one of the coolest we have seen this far.

MacBook ProIn our opinion, it doesn’t get much better than the MacBook Pro when it comes to a portable computer. Why? Well, aside from the Intel Core 2 Duo processors that they house, they are lightweight and have batteries that last almost three hours under normal use and load. It has a built-in iSight webcam, FireWire 400 and 800 ports, and a backlit keyboard. The kicker here though, is that by using this with the Parallels software, you can run Windows 2000, XP, and Vista side-by-side within OS X. If you prefer a dedicated OS experience, you can use Boot Camp to run Windows on it’s own. That means that by buying a MacBook Pro, you get access to both the OS X and Windows operating systems with extreme ease. The same can’t be said for the PC side of things.

Wow - we know that Adobe’s efforts to lock down the Photoshop CS3 Beta would be cracked very soon, but we certainly didn’t expect to see it happen in less than a day! As mentioned previously, Adobe wanted to give beta testers just two days to use the Photoshop CS3 software, unless they had an authentic Photoshop CS2 serial key. That just couldn’t stand in our highly social Internet community of today, and now there is both an OS X Photoshop CS3 crack, as well as a Photoshop CS3 beta Windows crack, already in the wild! Our guess? Adobe will put a bit more thought into the protection of the full Creative Suite 3 line - and it will take a little more than a day to get that cracked.

iPod nano

The recently overhauled iPod nano is almost a splitting image of the old-school iPod mini. You know, the anodized-aluminum casing that is available in multiple colors? Yeah, that’s the one. The new casing is much more scratch-resistant than the original nano, and features a brighter screen along with better battery life (26 hours!) and a thinner shell, if you can believe that. The new iPod nano also features updated software which includes a nice search interface. What you aren’t getting, though, is the ability to play movies or the new iPod games that are available in iTunes - however, we think that most people on the lookout to purchase a nano aren’t necessarily the gaming type. Plus, who would want to play Zuma on a screen this tiny? Still, for a flash-based portable music player, we give the nod to the iPod nano. Hey, you can even get the RED nano and help in the fight against AIDS. Feel free to check out our iPod nano unboxing video.

Mac commercialDespite recent rumors started last week on Radar, Justin Long says he is still the “Mac guy.” On his web page Justin states, “We’re doing some holiday spots now which I think will be pretty funny — not nearly funny enough to justify [sic] the money they’re paying me though, I’ll be honest with you.”

This is good news to us, since we are big fans of Apple’s creative spots and can’t wait to see the new commercials. Let’s just hope that fellow actor John Hodgman is smart enough not to cover Justin’s mouth with his hand again.

United AirlinesApple has announced that it has teamed up with airlines Continental, Delta, Air France, United, Emirates, and KLM to offer integration between iPods and in-flight entertainment. This service, which includes charging during flight, will become available in mid-2007.

“There is no better traveling companion than an iPod, and now travelers can power their iPods during flight and even watch their iPod movies and TV shows on their seat back displays,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing.
We knew that iPod’s friendliness would eventually take flight when we found out that 70% of U.S. autos already offer that connectivity.
