Xbox 360 Omega Bundle Winner

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements, Features, Video Games,
So, back at the beginning of September, we announced that we would be giving away an Xbox 360 Omega Bundle from Gamestop. Being the smart guys that we are, we knew they would sell out, and ordered quickly. We just needed to know where to send the damned thing. After eliminating and disqualifying those who entered more than once, we contacted two legitimate winners. The first two people gave false email addresses, which means they don’t get the prize. As they say, the third time is a charm, and Mitch G. walks away with the Omega Bundle due to his giving us valid contact information. Enjoy yourself, Mitch. We haven’t even pre-ordered our own.
To all the rest, keep an eye out. We have a giveaway that is going to be even bigger than this one in our 2006 Holiday Gift Guide.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements,
Wow, we didn’t even think we would make it to the top ten, but thanks to you readers, we are in the running! The TechWeb Blog-X Awards are now open for voting, and Gear Live is one of the ten choices that you can elect as the best independent tech blog of 2005. We have some stiff competition among us, so if you like what we do here, be a gem and give us a vote. Heck, we aren’t in it for the $500 Starbucks gift card, but the added readership would sure open up a lot more opportunities for content across our network.

While we at Gear Live are happy to tell you what sort of television you should invest in, which DVR to buy, and how to stream video via your Xbox 360, we aren’t experts when it comes to the actual programming that you will find on a daily basis when channel surfing. Instead, we leave that job to the newest site in the Gear Live Media Network, TV Envy. Headed up by Veronica Santiago and Rhys Alexander, these girls will definitely lay down the law when it comes to shows like Lost, Nip/Tuck, Top Model, and Desperate Housewives.
Go give them a warm welcome, and check them out regularly!

Now Reporting for Your Reading Delight: Gavin Choate.
Posted by Gavin Choate Categories: Announcements,
Hey everyone! My name is Gavin Choate, and I’m a new contributing blogger here at Gear Live. Since I’ll be subjecting you fine folks to my rants and whims of geek-ness, I figured I should tell you a little about myself. I’ve been a geek for a little over 23 years now (yes, since birth - I believe we are born that way). I’m currently a student studying Computer Science and Mathematics. I’m uncontrollably attracted to anything with blinking lights or buttons to push, so naturally I love
blenders
gadgets. To my open-source brethren: I’m a faithful Linux user. I’ve tried many different flavors over the years, and recently have been in love with Ubuntu. I still boot into
Wintendo
Windows for my gaming binges, but for some reason always feel the need to take a shower afterward.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to providing some interesting news, as well as well balanced reviews for everyone. Always remember, Geek is chic!

Help Us Out: The TechBlog Blog-X Awards

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements, Internet,
As you may have noticed, we at Gear Live can use all the help we can get. That being the case, if you want to help us out, you can do so in a big way by nominating us for a Blog-X TechBlog award. Now, this award is specifically for independent blogs - those run by one person or a couple of people with no major company or machine behind them. It sure would be cool to see our flagship site in the running - plus, November is my birthday month, so how could you not?
Do you read tech blogs? We’re looking for you to tell us which are the best of the best. Right now, it’s your chance to nominate your favorite independent tech blogs.
What kinds of tech blogs are eligible?
All blogs that cover technology and are published independently of a major publishing company are eligible.

Introducing Mark Harrison: Hello Brave New World!
Posted by Mark Harrison Categories: Announcements,
Hello! Long time reader, first time poster here. Today is my first day as a Gear Live blogger and I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Mark. I’m a 25 year old male who likes long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners, sunsets, and horse drawn carriage rides. Wait…what was I talking about? Seriously though, I am a huge geek when it comes to gadgets. I’m a self-proclaimed early adopter and I spend way too much time reading up on what is coming out, what isn’t coming out, what might be coming out, and what probably isn’t coming out but wouldn’t it be cool if it was coming out. I have experience with Mac OS, Mac OS X, Windows, some Linux, and BeOS (Zeta too.) I also have experience with various cell phones and carriers, DAPs, video game consoles and handhelds, PC/Mac gaming, home theatre systems, computer peripherals (I have a real fetish for keyboards), and just about any other category you can think of.
Please be gentle with me…I bruise like a peach. I hope you enjoy my rantings and ramblings!

Here we are again, growing at a rate that we never thought would be imaginable for an independant entity, and we are now ready to grow a bit more. That being said, Gear Live Media is looking for a few bloggers interested in making a name for themselves while writing about technology, games, business, and/or television. If that’s you, feel free to contact us letting us know who you are and why you are interested. The requirement here is strong aptitude and command of the English language, and a passion for the subject matter.
