If you're looking for a couple of great movies to put under the tree or into a stocking this holiday season, Sony Pictures is releasing two of its most recent blockbusters on Blu-ray and DVD just in time. You can pick up The Equalizer 2, which sees Denzel Washington reprise one of his signature roles (and acting in the first sequel he's ever done!) right now at Walmart, while Venom will be released on December 18th, one week before Christmas (but you can pre-order it at Walmart as well!)
I'm a big fan of movies that are centered around comic book characters, and when Sony sent over copies of each, I fired up Venom right away for a fun movie night with the fam. If you haven't heard, Venom is the story of journalist Eddie Brock and his attempt to bring down Carlton Drake. Drake is the mastermind behind the Life Foundation, which Brock discovers is using symbiotic lifeforms that require oxygen-breathing hosts to survive and thrive. Brock accidentally comes into contact with a symbiote, and thus begins his transformation into the superhuman title character, Venom, who tries to control Brock's new abilities.
I won't give away the entire story or plot, but it should be noted that Tom Hardy did a fantastic job playing investigative journalist Eddie Brock, and I think his performance really makes the movie worth watching.
A digital version of the film is set for release on December 11, 2018, with 4K UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD versions set for release on December 18, all available at Walmart. As you can expect, the physical releases come with bonus features that include over an hour of deleted and extended scenes, making-of featurette "The World Has Enough Superheroes," and "Venom Mode" - a way of watching the movie with informative pop-ups that appear on screen.
Back to movie night, my 14-year-old son thoroughly enjoyed this one as well, and mentioned that he wanted to see if again with a group of his buddies. If you have any teenaged fans of action or super hero movies, this is the one to pick up this holiday. As mentioned above, you can pre-order Venom right now from Walmart to get it in time for the holidays.
