Nokia Wibree Rivals Bluetooth
Nokia has announced the release of Wibree, its new short-range wireless technology, which they claim is up to ten times more energy-efficient than Bluetooth. They also boast that Wibree is less costly than other radio technologies and can easily integrate with Bluetooth solutions. Wibree has a 30-foot range and operates at 2.4 GHz. Because of its minuscule size, it can be used for keyboards, mice, and headsets, as well as button cell battery powered devices such as heart-rate monitors and watches. Nokia is expected to release the first of their Wibree line in mid-2007.
