Reveal Firefox Extension Reviewed
Reveal is a Firefox extension that allows you to view your current tabs as thumbnails directly on your screen - as shown with my favorite websites above. So I thought that this might prove pretty useless to me considering that I’m already using tabbed browsing. Why would I need to have mini pictures of these and what purpose would they serve? What’s really great about this extension is the ease of use. Once installed, you just press F2 to bring up the interface. Not only is it that simple, but its pretty too. Your screenshot comes zooming in from the side of your screen and places itself in the middle of your screen with the current tab highlighted.
You can quick jump onto the tab of your choice with a simple click, or you can scroll through the images with the arrow keys - although the latter of those choices seems like a slower method, you may have to do this if you have a bunch of tabs open:
If you are familiar with the latest version of “The Fox,” then you surely know about the wonders of moving tabs. Why would you do that? For grouping similar tabs together. If you are surfing for a new car and buying antique bobbleheads on eBay, you want to make sure you’ve got cars with cars, and bobbleheads with bobbleheads. What Reveal allows you to do is drag and drop them where you want them. How convenient for you - you can group your Gear Live permalinks so that they don’t interfere with Playfeed, TV Envy or End Score:
The last feature worth mentioning is search. Whenever you pull up your thumbnails, you can do a keyword search in just about any fashion - including your history. To say the least, this may be quite useful if you want to narrow your thumbnails to what you need. I did an iMac search in this case:
There are only two downfalls to this extension. I would like to perhaps be able to customize how my thumbnails are displayed. If there are a multitude of them, they just hover off screen. It’d be nice if they just shifted on screen somehow. Also, it tends to eat up a bit of memory. However, if you have RAM to spare and are just surfing around it shouldn’t be too harsh. I encourage you to download it and give your browser a little bit of fun.
