Just in time for Father’s Day, OPPO has released another upconverting DVD player. The DV-983H produces even better details, color, and a picture closer to HD. Hook it up to your HDTV and turn standard DVDs into high-def 1080p. The player can also convert PAL to NTSC and is multi-level zoom capable. And for those music videos, the DV offers 7.1 channel audio with Dolby Digital Surround EX. Your dad will probably hand you the keys to his vacation home if you present him with this as a gift at a price of $399.99, which can be purchased online at the OPPO store.
By the way, we got a look at the OPPO 980H PL unit and were incredibly impressed with it and all its features. However, if you do not have an HDTV it will not upconvert your standard DVDs.
(Thanks, Noe)

I just got my hands on one of the HP Mini-Note 2133 ultra-portable notebook (netbook?) computers. A few first impressions are below, a taste of our upcoming HP 2133 vs. Eee PC 900 Battle Royale:
HP Mini-Note 2133 wins:
- 2133 has a much nicer keyboard
- 2133 has a cleaner design
- 2133 has a faster processor (1.6Ghz vs. 900Mhz)
- 2133 has more RAM (2GB vs. 1GB)
Eee PC 900 wins:
- Eee PC is cheaper ($550 vs. $729-819)
- Eee PC is slimmer and lighter (2133 battery protrudes downward)
- Eee PC has more USB 2.0 ports (3 vs. 2)
- Eee PC is easier to dual boot with Ubuntu
Obviously the HP 2133 has a lot going for it, however it’s significantly more expensive. Stay tuned for more in-depth information about these trendy new netbooks and how they compare for power, usability, and value.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard debuting at WWDC?
![](http://assets.gearlive.com/images/member_photos/photo_1.jpg)
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Rumors, Software,
So, word on the street now is that Apple will be unveiling Mac OS X
10.5.6
10.6 in a mere five days at WWDC. Based on the fact that Steve Jobs said that they wanted to get back on track to releasing just about yearly, I started asking people if they thought the successor to Leopard would show up next week, and they all scoffed as if I were some sort of lunatic. Well, now with the reports that TUAW and Ars have receive, it appears that my hunch was correct. Oh, and what will the successor be named? We all know Apple likes to stick with the cats for OS X, and it appears that this time it is going to be “Snow Leopard.” You see, this release is all about tightening up speed, stability, and security - not so much about dazzling new features like Time Machine. See? They want to take Leopard, and make it white as snow. That’s almost as cute as an iPod nano…
We look to Monday to see what Steve brings us.

John LeSieur Zac Browser for Autistic Kids

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Hot Deals, Internet, PC / Laptop, Science, Software,
John LeSieur’s grandson has autism and couldn’t get into computers. Because the man works in software and couldn’t find something already available, he created the Zac Browser, named for the boy. The browser consists of hand-picked free websites such as those with educational games, music, videos, and such images as a virtual aquarium. Extraneous keyboard buttons that would be confusing have been disabled. Not only was it welcomed by Zac, John is offering his program free of charge to other parents of autistic children. Our props for another fine effort from someone who could, and did.
