For those who don’t do tripods or want something a little handier, Etsumi has developed a Digital Camera Pouch with built-in stand. The device is available in dark grey or pink, and comes in two models, the S-sized 60 x 25 x 90mm and the M-sized 60 x 32 x 93mm. Pre-order for $31.26 for a September 1 release date. We like that the case is tiny enough that we can sneak it into places that keep discouraging us from taking “unauthorized” pictures, namely aging rock stars who don’t want to be seen on YouTube or Flickr.

When was the last time you drove by an old abandoned drive-in and longed for the good old days? Kevin Van did more than just wish. He decided to create one in his back yard. Not only did he set up his own retractable 16:9 screen, he restored nine vintage drive-in speakers that now play Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound on his deck and 2-channel stereo near his pool. And of course this home theater would not be complete without a popcorn popper, hot dog steamer, and a nacho machine and chili warmer so that he can get the carbs that go with the screenings. Unboxing Live 040: HP TouchSmart PC second gen

We were able to get our hands on one of the new HP TouchSmart computers recently, and were very impressed by what we saw - especially when compared to the original TouchSmart that we saw back at CES 2007. We unbox the new TouchSmart in this episode, showing off the new, sleek form factor, along with all the new wireless accessories that HP has designed to compliment the experience.
What we love most about it, aside from the cool touch screen implementation, is the fact that it is a full featured, powerful computer. Typically, all-in-one computers like these have been underpowered. Not so with the TouchSmart, which is chock-full of RAM (4GB), hard drive space (500 GB), 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS HD graphics card, and Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit edition. It even has an integrated ATSC & NTSC TV tuner with PVR and remote.

Samsung took the opportunity of utilizing the Olympics to introduce its new E200 Eco Cell Phone. Instead of being made of petroleum-based polycarbonate plastic, this one is made of bio-plastics that is created out of corn. Even the box has been made of non-coated, recycled paper. The Eco will debut in September and is part of their environmentally friendly line that includes the W510, which is also made of bio-plastic, and the F268, a BFR/PVC free mobile phone.

Kapsys Kapten GPS System

Never get lost jogging again. The French company Kapsys has unveiled their Kapten mini portable GPS device without a screen. Designed for pedestrians rather than vehicles, its interface works with voice recognition or text-to-speech. At a size of only 74 x 44 x 13mm and a weight of 50g, it has TeleAtlas from France but other cities are downloadable. The Kapten has a SiRF Star III receiver and can hold up to 4GB memory. It also can do Bluetooth and is an MP3 player and FM tuner. Look for a mid-September launch for £150 (~$300.00.)

GM Plans Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

AM General, the company that makes the Hummer H2 for GM, is hoping to make wheelchair-accessible vehicles by 2010. The car will be made for the U.S. and Canada and will include an automatic ramp that will be able to handle wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobile devices. They say they already have reservations for 3,500 units. Since GM has mentioned that other parties might be interested in its Hummer brand, it will be interesting to see if this will be another carrot or a last ditch effort by the company to keep those gas-hogs on the road.

Japan’s Tokyo University researcher Tsuyoshi Sekitani and team have created e-skin. Carbon nanotubes are combined with an iconic liquid and then added to rubber. The result is that it can feel heat and pressure the same as human skin. Applications include being used in steering wheels to determine body temperature to see if the driver should operate his/her vehicle, as a mattress cover for those who are bedridden to gauge body pressure, and of course the obvious, robot skin.
